‘MacDonald Didn’t Know What Year It Was After UFC 189 Loss to Lawler’
UFC 189’s co-headliner saw a war take place when Robbie Lawler successfully defended his UFC Welterweight Championship against Rory MacDonald. By the time the bout had concluded, both Lawler and MacDonald were cut open and their blood told a violent story when it was painted on the octagon canvas.
It seems that MacDonald got the worst of it, however. Dana White revealed during the post fight press conference that when MacDonald didn’t know what year it was after his fight with Lawler.
“[Rory MacDonald’s] nose was broken,” White told the media. “They asked him, when Rory got out back, they said, ‘what year is it?’ He didn’t know what year it was. First of all, it was a war. And a complete display of chin, heart, grit, dogged determination, and the will to win from both guys.”
MacDonald’s coach Firas Zahabi also told MMA Fighting that he was taken to the hospital after the fight. MacDonald suffered a fractured right foot as well as a broken nose throughout his twenty-one minute fight with the champion.
