“Rumble” Willing To Wait A Year For Jones Fight If He Has To
UFC light heavyweight champion Jon “Bones” Jones is expected to defend his title against Anthony “Rumble” Johnson in the headlining bout of next month’s UFC 187 pay-per-view event in Las Vegas.
Unfortunately for fight fans, that title bout is now in jeopardy due to Jones’ recent arrest on Monday evening.
“Rumble” Johnson appeared on yesterday’s edition of UFC Tonight, where he stated that he is still very focused on fighting “Bones”, whether it’s May 23 at UFC 187 or a year from now, his words:
“Nothing’s changed,” said Johnson (as transcribed by Shaun Al-Shatti for MMAFighting.com). “I’m still training hard, staying focused, staying on the grind. Like I said, whoever they give me, whatever they throw my way, I’ll be ready no matter what.”
“I only want to fight for the title. I feel like I’ve worked my way up to being the No. 1 contender, and I plan on staying that way. Unless it’s for a title, I don’t want to be like Vitor and wait a year. But if I have to, I will.”
