Shogun Ignores His Family’s Plea To Retire

By BJPENN.COM News - September 8, 2014

Shogun Rua has one of the longest and most storied careers in MMA. From being the Pride Grand Prix champion in 2005 to becoming a UFC champion in 2010, Shogun Rua isn’t ready to put an end to his 12-year MMA career just yet.

He spoke on a Brazilian TV program:

“My mother asks me ‘you really have to fight?’, and I say that’s my job, mom.”

“I do this for 13 years. Every month, my wife and my mother meet and try to make me stop (fighting), but I tell them that’s what I love to do.”

It was recently announced that Shogun would face Jimi Manuwa in Brazil in November. Prior to that he lost a rematch to Dan Henderson via TKO, during which he also suffered a broken nose.

Do you think Shogun’s career is coming to an end?
