Sonnen: McGregor Has to Cut 27 Pounds in 8 days for UFC 189
Conor McGregor will be squaring off with fellow UFC featherweight Chad Mendes for the interim title at “UFC 189” this Saturday. Just eight days away from weigh-ins, though, Chael Sonnen claimed that “The Notorious” will need to cut over twenty-five pounds in eight days to fight for the title.
“He’s a very big guy. I was impressed with how big he is,” Chael Sonnen said while talking to Jim Rome last week. “I was like ‘Conor, what do you weigh?’, he said ‘I’m around 172 pounds’. He’s got to be 145 pounds in eight days.”
A shocking picture surfaced on the web earlier this year that saw McGregor standing next to welterweight fighter Tyron Woodley. The two looked similar in size despite being a couple weight classes apart from each other!
“I don’t know how he’s going to do it,” Sonnen said of McGregor’s weight cut. “He’s very lean. He has a very busy schedule. He’s training at Las Vegas. He was just in LA with Conan O’Brien last night. He’s in New York for Reebok a day before that. He was in Connecticut the day before that.”
