Sonnen On “Party Animal” Jones: ‘I Wish He Would Stop’

Chael Sonnen had earned a negative reputation in the eyes of many largely in part to his harsh war of words with Anderson Silva leading up to both of his fights against Silva.

When Sonnen appeared as a coach on The Ultimate Fighter, opposite Jon Jones, Sonnen earned the respect of many fans for his kind, and genuine personality as he mentored the competitors throughout the show. Sonnen also got to know light heavyweight kingpin Jon Jones fairly well, and in the wake of Jones failed drug test for cocaine, wishes Jones would stop partying so much.

He made his plea to Jones on The Adam Carolla Show:

“I wish he would stop doing that. I know the guy personally. He’s a cool guy. He’s funny. He’s nice to people. He’s generous, but he’s a party animal. As soon as the sun goes down, he’s headed out.”

“He’s 24 years old. He’s not married. I don’t think there’s a thing in the world wrong with it. I’m not sure why he does. He’s so ashamed of it that he pretends to be something else, and it gets himself in trouble. The reality of who he is is a very likable guy. If he was in the room right now, he’d have us all cracking up. He can dance a little bit; he tells funny stories.”
