Sorry, “Rumble” Johnson! Ryan Bader’s sights are set on Daniel Cormier
Anthony “Rumble” Johnson is looking to get on the path back to the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship and his latest attempts at calling out Ryan Bader dug deep. It looks like Bader won’t be taking the bait, however, as “Darth’s” manager informed Fox Sports that they will be waiting it out for the return of champion Daniel Cormier.
“We have the utmost respect for Anthony Johnson. We think he’s a tremendous talent and he’s got good representation,” David Martin, Bader’s manager, mentioned. “If I was advising Anthony, I’d be telling him to do the exact same thing— call out Ryan Bader. Why? Because that’s your fastest track to getting a title shot and that’s what these guys are in this sport for to be champion, and title shots don’t grow on trees.” Martin said.
“That’s why Ryan wants Daniel Cormier, and our sights are set on nothing but Daniel Cormier,” Martin continued. “There’s still a big unknown out there with Jon Jones, but as we sit here and talk today, he’s still suspended by the UFC. Until that changes, Ryan’s sights are on Daniel Cormier.”
Cormier mentioned he would be taking some time off from the octagon after fighting in three grueling fights in 2015. Cormier put in a losing effort to Jon “Bones” Jones earlier in the year only to rebound in a major way against both Anthony Johnson and Alexander Gustafsson.
Ryan Bader has strung together an impressive five fight win streak with his most recent victory coming at the expense of Rashad Evans at UFC 192.
