Stann: Dillashaw Made The Right Choice
Even though most fighters make their way down to the octagon with their corner close behind, mixed martial arts is still an individual sport. In order to make it to the next level, a fighter may need to be more selfish than he wants and make a move that won’t go over well with his old team.
Brian Stann thinks such is the case with TJ Dillashaw leaving Team Alpha Male in favor of Elevation Fight Team in Colorado.
UFC Bantamweight Champion TJ Dillashaw made the choice to leave California-based Team Alpha Male earlier this week and it caused a major uproar in the MMA community. Weeks ago on “The Ultimate Fighter”, McGregor commented that Dillashaw was simply a “snake in the grass” waiting for his moment to shine. Dillashaw claims that he made the move because he was getting paid to train at the state of the art “MusclePharm” facility at Elevate, rather than pay to train.
Former UFC fighter and current UFC on FOX analyst Brian Stann doesn’t state whether he thought Dillashaw was a snake in the grass his entire stay with Team Alpha Male, but he believes Dillashaw made the right move.
“I think that TJ’s making the right decision, and here’s why, first and foremost in this sport you’ve got to be selfish,” Stann told Sirius XM’s ‘Fight Club‘. “It is something that held me back a little bit in my career and at the end of the day this is about how much money you can make over the longest period of time you can do it. If TJ Dillashaw feels like that is the better environment for him to go to and make as much money as he can and maximizes opportunities then he’s got to do it, whether it hurts some friend’s feelings or not. His family and paying his bills to take care of his family come first, ahead of all else.”
TJ Dillashaw joins the likes of Matt Brown, Cat Zingnao and Clay Guida at Elevate Fight Team. Where do you think Dillashaw will shine better? Share your thoughts in the comment section below!
