The UFC Removes Costas Philippou From Rankings
UFC middleweight Costas Philippou is no longer listed on the UFC’s rankings. He was previously ranked at #12, but now, with the updated lists, Philippou is no where to be found and Dan Henderson has taken his spot, with Robert Whittaker, Roan Carneiro, and Derek Brunson moving up one spot to fill out the top 15.
Why is this worth talking about? Well the UFC usually doesn’t remove someone from the rankings unless one of a few things happen:
If a fighter is inactive for an extended period of time (Philippou just fought in May), if a fighter retires, if a fighter is released from the UFC, if they fail a drug test, if UFC contract expires and they’re still negotiating.
So, let’s break this down. He hasn’t been inactive, the UFC just released their monthly cut list and he wasn’t on that. So he could be retiring, could have failed a drug test, or maybe he’s in contract negotiations. Either way, it’s something to look out for.
