Tito Ortiz accuses Liam McGeary of lotioning himself up prior to title fight
“DYNAMITE” could go down as one of the more historical nights in Bellator brief history. Even though the ratings did not reflect the hype leading into the card, fighters and fans from around the world gathered to watch an amazing one-night four man tournament and Tito Ortiz fight for gold once again.
Ortiz was riding a two fight win streak going into his championship fight with Liam McGeary who possessed an undefeated record of 10-0. Ortiz did a fantastic job at implementing his ground and pound in the opening minutes of the fight, but McGeary eventually caught Ortiz in an inverted triangle that forced the referee to wave off the fight. Ortiz recently stated in an interview that he believes the fact that McGeary lotions himself up constantly helped him slip out of disadvantageous positions.
“The first little exchange and then going for the takedown I went for his legs and his legs felt … I don’t want to say slippery, but just super soft,” Ortiz told Submission Radio. “I just let my arms slide up the side of him and I had to re-shoot again.”
Ortiz continued, “A little baby lotion or lotion. He uses a lot of lotion on his legs. Everybody, I mean, not everybody, but most people put lotion on themselves so maybe he put a lot of lotion on prior. He caught me in a submission. He was the better man.”
Does the fact that McGeary was slippery change things? Should the two square off again in a rematch? Share your thoughts in the comment section below!
