Cole Miller forced off UFC Fight Night 46, Conor McGregor now faces Diego Brandao

By Chris Taylor - June 3, 2014

Cole Miller (21-8 MMA, 10-6 UFC) was expected to face off with Conor McGregor this July in the headlining bout of “UFC Fight Night 46.”

Unfortunately for fans of “Magrinho,” Cole has been forced off the card, this after suffering torn ligaments in his hand.

Stepping in for Miller against McGregor will be “Ultimate Fighter Season 14” winner Diego Brandao (18-9 MMA, 4-2 UFC).

Despite the change, UFC president Dana White seems confident that the new headliner will still be a barn burner:

“Diego Brandao is explosive and a well-rounded fighter,” White stated. “This should be a war.”

Diego Brandao was last seen in action this past December at UFC 168, where he suffered a first-round knockout loss to perennial contender Dustin Poirier, this after missing weight by 5 pounds. Prior to the loss, Brandao had put together a 3-fight win streak, which included victories over Daniel Pineda, Pablo Garza and Joey Gambino.

Meanwhile, Conor McGregor (14-2 MMA, 2-0 UFC) is set to fight for the first time since tearing his ACL in a winning effort over Max Holloway at August 2013’s “UFC Fight Night 26” event in Boston. “Notorious” will be looking to earn his eleventh-straight win when he faces Brandao this July in his native Ireland.

“UFC Fight Night 46: Brandao vs. McGregor” takes place July 19 live from The O2 in Dublin. The event is expected to stream on UFC Fight Pass in the United States.
