UFC 171 Results: Lombard Dominates Shields in an Unimpressive Decision Win

Jake Shields and Hector Lombard went the full fifteen minutes, much to the dismay of those in attendance and watching at home. Shields simply did not bring enough to the table to pull off a victory tonight. He looked off and it was almost as if he was solely relying on his grappling skills to gain any momentum.

Lombard fought an intelligent, safe fight. he not only outstruck his opponent, but he was able to outgrapple him as well. Lombard’s strength put a stop to a lot of Shields’ transition and submission attempts. Shields suffered a laceration over his eye due to some powerful shots he absorbed in the first round.

Lombard dominated every aspect of the fight tonight. He threw Shields multiple times which awarded him takedowns, but he did not implement any ground-and-pound while on the mat. Lombard showed fatigue and rode out the decision victory.

Hector Lombard improved his UFC record to 3-2.
