UFC Champ Daniel Cormier: ‘A lot of People Want To Discredit Me’
Current UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel ‘DC’ Cormier will defend his belt for the first time this Saturday at UFC 192 when he takes on Alexander Gustafsson in the night’s main event.
Cormier was the last fighter to go up against former champ Jon Jones, in a losing effort, before he was stripped of his title and indefinitely suspended. After that, Cormier faced off with Anthony Johnson for the vacant belt and ended up submitting him with a rear naked choke.
Since winning that belt, it seems as though a lot of the talk from fans has been about Cormier not being a ‘true’ champion, because he didn’t beat the guy many considered to be the p4p king to get it.
At Wednesday’s open workouts for UFC 192, Cormier talked about the lack of respect he’s getting and said, maybe people just don’t like him, but he’ll just keep doing what he does.

“A lot of people want to discredit me. I’ve done nothing but show up and fight, go to work inside the Octagon, outside the Octagon, and do things right. But people want to talk about me and discredit me. I’ve done nothing wrong. Some people just don’t like me. Maybe I’m somebody that’s easy to dislike, but, I don’t get it. Whatever, I’ll do what I do.”
