UFC champ Weidman speaks out on Anderson Silva: “People don’t like liars”
Anderson Silva’s hearing with the Nevada State Athletic Commission did not go as the former middleweight champion had hoped. Silva tried his best to explain the fact that the positive test result was due to his ingestion of a tainted sexual performance pill, but the NSAC was not buying it and suspended Silva for a year from his failed drug test along with a hefty fine of over $300,000.
It wasn’t long ago that “The Spider” was at the top of his game, knocking out any opponent that Dana White and UFC matchmaker Joe Silva put in front of him. His spectacular knockouts against Yushin Okami and Vitor Belfort will stand the test of time, but fighters have questioned whether his legacy will be tarnished with the positive drug test.
Regardless of whether Silva’s legacy has been tarnished, his run as champion came to an end when he went toe-to-toe with the undefeated Chris Weidman. Weidman shocked the world when he sent Silva crashing to the canvas winning the UFC’s middleweight championship in the process. Weidman recently told the MMA Hour that Silva should simply come clean about the drug test, claiming that ‘people don’t like liars’.
“I watched like a little bit of it and I saw some people (talk about it), so I don’t know all of the facts. I don’t want to just starting talking without knowing all of the facts, but I saw some people said that he changed his story like three times,” Weidman said. “I saw Bas Rutten said that. And my thing is just, everyone is a screw-up. I tweeted this out. But everybody messes up, so people understand that. But people don’t like liars.”
“So if you mess up, man, just be honest. People respect that and understand it because everyone messes up. People appreciate honesty. And if you’re changing your story three different times, that doesn’t sound good. Just fess up.”
