UFC Fighters react to the MTV VMAs and it isn’t pretty

By BJPENN.COM News - August 30, 2015

For better or worse, MTV’s “Video Music Awards” always becomes one of the most talked-about nights in American culture. Whether it’s because it is the only night of the year MTV actually acknowledges music videos or because something crazy happened, mainstream outlets are usually picking up on it and breaking down the best and the worst happenings of the night.

Nothing compares to what happened at Sunday’s VMAs, however.

After Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber made America cringe, Kanye West went on the ultimate rant at the end of the show. After he received the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award (essentially a Lifetime Achievement Award), West said the following:

“It crosses my mind a little bit like when I go to the baseball game and, like, 60,000 people boo me…I think if I had to do it all again, what would I have done? Would I have worn a leather shirt? Would I have drank a half a bottle of Hennessy and gave the rest of it to the audience?…If I had a daughter at that time, would I have went on stage and grabbed the mic from someone else’s?It crosses my mind a little bit like when I go to the baseball game and, like, 60,000 people boo me…I think if I had to do it all again, what would I have done? Would I have worn a leather shirt? Would I have drank a half a bottle of Hennessy and gave the rest of it to the audience?…If I had a daughter at that time, would I have went on stage and grabbed the mic from someone else’s?”

What it seems West was trying to get at was whether or not he would trade in all of his fame for a normal life, but he sure went about a weird way asking that. Finally, after nearly twelve minutes of rambling, West concluded by announcing he will be running for president in 2020:

“And yes, as you probably could have guessed by this moment, I have decided, in 2020, to run for president.”

Ooph. UFC fighters made sure to voice their disproval of everything and anything MTV VMA related:

Even one of (Viacom-owned) Bellator’s champions had to weigh in on how bad the show was!
