UFC FN 49 Results: Holloway Dominates Collard, Wins by TKO in Round 3

By bjpenndotcom - August 23, 2014

Max Holloway’s speed and patience paid dividends compared to Clay Collard’s desire to brawl.

Collard had the gas tank to approach this bout with his brawler-heavy moveset in the first couple minutes of the fight, but once his tank drained things began to get sloppy.

Holloway’s technique almost awarded him a knockout victory in multiple striking exchanges. Holloway often picked Collard apart but Collard went into Zombie-Mode (See: Chris Leben) where he absorbed the slugs and fired off wild shots of his own.

These strikes from Collard were nowhere near enough for him to earn a decision win in the end, but they sure as hell aided him in survival. The haymakers strayed Holloway off for a few seconds, but he was quick to attack with flurry of strikes as soon as possible.

Holloway was able to force Collard to the ground in the third round and that was the beginning of the end. Collard had no energy to block the transitions of Holloway and it wasn’t long before he found Holloway postured up on his back.

Holloway fired off with shot after shot and it was obvious Collard was not going to last long. The referee finally stepped in and waved it off.
