UFC on FOX 10 Results: Cacares Ends Pettis’ Win Streak, Submits him in Third Round

By bjpenndotcom - January 25, 2014

After getting his first UFC win under his belt, Sergio Pettis walked into the octagon tonight with a bit more composure than he did on his debut.

Pettis landed more significant strikes than Caceres did throughout the first two rounds, but he could not put any combinations together. When Pettis cracked Caceres with a head kick as he was bending down, he did not follow it up with any punches; he simply let Caceres recover.

Nonetheless, Pettis was starting to feel more and more comfortable and as a result opened up his striking a bit more than we had seen in the first two rounds. This allowed Caceres to counter Pettis’ dangerous kicks with takedowns. Pettis would always find his way back to his feet, but he was not learning from the mistakes he was making.

Pettis attempted to trip Caceres and take him down, but it was Caceres who would end up on top. Off his back, Pettis was looking to secure the win with a leg lock. He couldn’t put him away and Caceres transitioned to Pettis’ back where he would start looking for a submission of his own! Caceres locked one of his arms under the neck of Pettis and worked for the rear naked choke. Pettis was trapped and had no other choice but to tap.

Alex Caceres has not lost in the octagon since February 2012.

Alex Caceres def. Sergio Pettis by way of Submission (Rear Naked Choke) 4:39 of Round 3
