UFC on FOX 11 Results: Alves Makes Successful UFC Return Against Baczynski, Gets Decision Win

Thiago Alves returned to the octagon tonight for the first time since March 2012 and he is still as sharp as ever. He showed great speed, awareness and grappling defense as he fought his way to a decision win against Seth Baczynski.

Baczynski showed great movement at the start of the first round. He kept his feet busy, circling away from Alves’ powerhand and tried to attack from different angles. Alves stayed composed and let the weak punches sneak through so he could counter with some brutal shots. By the end of the round, Alves’ countershots had taken their toll and Baczynski was visibly slowing down.

Thiago Alves started to evolve his gameplan in the second round as he pressed the action more often. He took to the center of the octagon and found success in landing inside leg kicks before following up with hooks or jabs. Eventually, Baczynski would buckle after receiving the leg kick and even tried fighting southpaw for a brief moment.

Baczynski attempted to take the fight to the ground in the third round but Alves showed great takedown defense. He stuffed all four of Baczynski’s takedown attempts throughout the fight. The last minute of the fight showcased Alves’ diversity in striking and Baczynski’s heart.
