UFC on FOX 11 Results: Werdum Defeats Browne with Ease, Will Face Velasquez for Title
To the surprise of most, Fabricio Werdum not only dominated the grappling aspect of the fight but the standup as well. Even though Browne landed a handful of his own shots early on, it was Werdum who landed the majority of the significant strikes.
The striking game seemed relatively even until Fabricio Werdum became the first man to take Travis Browne down. From there, Werdum worked for submissions while simultaneously draining Browne’s gas tank. By the time they got back to their feet, Browne was exhausted and couldn’t even keep his hands up to defend himself.
Werdum displayed superior striking and grappling skills in the second round then concentrated solely on striking in the third. Browne proved one thing, though: His chin is among the best in the heavyweight division. He absorbed over 100 strikes in the first three rounds and STILL pressed forward.
Travis Browne showed a bit more pep in his step when round four came around, but Werdum’s jabs and patient counters forbid Browne from gaining any momentum.
The fifth round was simply a showcase for Werdum’s ability to pick his shots and land at will.
The judges declared Fabricio Werdum the winner by way of unanimous decision and he will go on to face Cain Velasquez for the UFC Heavyweight Championship.
Fabricio Werdum def. Travis Browne by way of Unanimous Decision (49-46, 50-45, 50-45)
