USADA CEO: ‘UFC Will Have NO Involvement In Drug Testing’
Earlier in June, Ultimate Fighting Championship made a big step in order to clean up the sport of mixed martial arts. They announced the ‘most comprehensive anti-doping policy’ and became very proactive about drug testing their athletes.
The CEO of the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA), Travis Tygart, has stated how impressed he was at how fast UFC wanted to start their testing. Now, he reveals more details in an interview with MMAFighting. Tygart stated that the USADA would not have struck a deal with the UFC if Dana White and company wanted to facilitate the testing; it’s completely out of their hands.
“They’re removed themselves,” Tygart said. “We weren’t gonna be involved with a program if the sport continued to decide all the material things that made an independent program independent or not. That includes who is tested. They have no involvement in that.
“We decide who and when to investigate and to open investigations. We then decide when a particular case is brought, whether or not it contains a positive test or not.”
It’s obvious this deal is good for the sport, but is drug testing good for the UFC? Do you expect to see some big test-failures? Share your thoughts in the comment section below!
