White on Cormier/Johnson: ‘It Went Exactly How I Thought It Would’
Daniel Cormier and Anthony “Rumble” Johnson met in the middle of the octagon at the main event of “UFC 187″. Cormier’s elite wrestling skills would ultimately be Johnson’s downfall as he repeatedly got taken down and ground out. Fatigue started to kick in after the first round concluded and it wasn’t long before Cormier was able to lock in a rear naked choke for a submission victory.
During Fox Sports 1’s post fight show, Dana White revealed that the fight went exactly how he thought it would. “This fight went the way I thought it would go,” White said. “Johnson had the power to catch him with something, but Cormier would just wrestle him and wear him out.”
It’s no secret that Cormier wants his first championship defense to be against the suspended Jon Jones. White addressed the rematch becoming a reality. “Cormier’s only loss is to Jon Jones. He’s fought heavyweights,” White said. “Cormier is the man. There’s no doubt Cormier doesn’t like Jones, and Jones doesn’t like him either. Cormier is a class act. He stepped up instantly to take this fight. We’ve got to see how the Jones thing plays out.”
