White: UFC 190 pay-per-view buys trending ahead of UFC 189
It looks like the lackluster card of “UFC 190” did not impact the pay-per-view buys at all as Dana White claims UFC 190 was trending ahead of UFC 189!
Ronda Rousey took to the center of the octagon quick on Saturday night and clashed with fellow bantamweight Bethe Correia to decide the fait of her championship. Rousey only needed thirty four seconds to dispose of “Pitbull” and retain her title. The rivalry was heated, but by no means was it as hyped as Conor McGregor’s chance at gold in July.
McGregor was expected to face Jose Aldo at UFC 189 and the bout was expected to crush previous PPV records set by Brock Lesnar and Frank Mir at UFC 100. However, Aldo pulled out of the fight and was replaced by Chad Mendes.
Aldo’s late pull out did not impact PPV buys too hard as Dave Meltzer predicts UFC 189 did around 800,000 buys.
After the event, UFC President Dana White claimed that the event was trending better than UFC 189:
“Yes. You don’t see women knock women out like that. She knocked her out. She’s an absolute beast,” White said of Rousey. “She just keeps getting better. Tonight’s fight is trending bigger than UFC 189.”
