Fabricio Werdum became the undisputed baddest man on the planet Saturday night in Mexico City, this by defeating Cain Velasquez in the main event of UFC 188.

“Vai Cavalo” was able to dismantle Cain Velasquez on the feet during the opening 10 minutes of their championship fight before eventually submitting the now former champion in round three with a guillotine choke.

After such a decisive victory, there will likely be no outcry for an immediate Velasquez vs. Werdum rematch, so it will be interesting to see who Joe Silva and crew decide to pit Werdum against in what will be his first title defense.

One viable option for the UFC is former champion Junior Dos Santos. “JDS” and Werdum already have a history, as “Cigano” ran right through Werdum in his UFC debut in October of 2008, earning a TKO victory in less than 90 seconds.

Junior Dos Santos has gone 11-2 during his UFC career, with his lone two losses in that time coming to Cain Velasquez. “JDS” was most recently seen in action at December’s UFC on FOX 13 event, where he earned a hard-fought unanimous decision win over Stipe Miocic.

Another option for the UFC matchmakers is to pit Werdum against former title holder Andrei Arlovski. Like Dos Santos, Arlovski already has a history with Werdum, as he defeated the Brazilian via unanimous decision at UFC 70 in 2007.

Arlovski is currently riding a five fight win streak, which includes three victories under the UFC banner. “The Pitbull” is coming off a TKO win over Travis Browne, which he earned at last month’s UFC 187 event. Prior to that, Arlovski knocked out “Bigfoot” Silva in the first-round of their main event fight in Brazil this past September.

There is no doubt that Werdum would like to avenge both of his aforementioned prior losses. But who is more deserving and should get the nod first, “JDS” or Arlovski? Sound off Penn Nation!
