Zingano Ready To Return To Action At UFC 178, Focused On “Moving Forward”
Cat Zingano hasn’t fought in the UFC since April of 2013 when she stopped Miesha Tate via TKO. Zingano will be returning to competition this Saturday at UFC 178 against Amanda Nunes, who is 2-0 in the UFC.
Ahead of her return bout, the undefeated ‘Alpha’ joined MMAJunkie to discuss the bout.
“I’m just trying to get through this fight, dude. After the fight, I know I’ll be more responsive. Right now, you guys are catching me at a time when my focus is completely on moving forward and getting through what I need to get through and trying to get that ‘W.’ That’s it.”
In addition to recovering from a torn ACL, Zingano was also forced to deal with the unfortunate death of her husband, leaving Zingano as a single mother to her 8 year old son.
“I really enjoy my outside time with the team and getting to be a regular mom, watching the kid play football. It’s a nice relief for everything to be about him. I get to leave work at work.”
Prior to her 17-month layoff, Zingano was named the #1 contender to Ronda Rousey’s bantamweight championship, but missed out on her title shot with her injury.
“I was disappointed I didn’t get what I earned, but I understand that the show must go on and I’ve gotta do what I’ve gotta do to get back on that horse,”
