Austin Vanderford issues statement following TKO loss to Gegard Mousasi at Bellator 275

Austin Vanderford has issued a statement following his 85-second TKO loss to Gegard Mousasi last night at Bellator 275. After starting his mixed martial arts career with eleven straight wins, five of which came under the Bellator banner, Vanderford was given the opportunity to fight for middleweight gold.

Bellator 275’s main event saw Gegard Mousasi take on top contender Austin Vanderford. The Dutch fighter looked to make the second straight defense of his middleweight crown. Both men came into the fight riding waves of momentum. The champion Gegard Mousasi (49-7-2) was coming off a third-round TKO of John Salter in August 2021. He won the belt for the second time in October 2020, by outpointing former welterweight champion Douglas Lima.

Ever since signing for Bellator back in 2017, Gegard Mousasi has set out to prove what he’s believed for years – that “The Dreamcatcher” is the best middleweight in all of mixed martial arts. With a 6-1 record in the promotion and two stints with the belt, he’s done a pretty good job of putting himself in the running.

MMA analyst Chael Sonnen produced a great impression of The Ultimate Warrior when praising the mic work of Logan Storley recently. Last Saturday night at Bellator 274, Logan Storley managed to grind out an impressive decision win over Neiman Gracie to take his professional mixed martial arts record to 13-1. He had to go through some adversity to get his hand raised but ultimately, he was the better man out of the two.
A.J. McKee vs. Patricio Pitbull rematch set for Bellator 277 in April

Bellator 277 has officially been announced for April 15th. The event is packing heat and has two of their biggest title fights of the year scheduled for it. The main event of the card will be the second chapter in the rivalry between A.J. McKee and Patricio Pitbull. The two first met at Bellator 263, where ‘Mercenary’ defeated the champion via first-round submission to claim featherweight gold. The bout was the finals of Bellator’s 2020 featherweight Grand Prix.

Yoel Romero has a name and a date for his return to the Bellator cage. The ‘Soldier of God’ signed to the promotion in December 2020 to much fanfare. Romero was a staple of the UFC’s middleweight promotion for nearly a decade. Along the way, he fought in four titles bouts, most recently against Israel Adesanya at UFC 248.

Benson Henderson, 38, has been competing for Bellator MMA in the lightweight division and is currently ranked at #3. Henderson, a former UFC lightweight champion (28-11 MMA) fought Islam Mamedov (20-1 MMA) at Bellator 273, last Saturday, January 29th in Phoenix, Arizona. The result was Henderson defeating Mamedov by split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28).
