Amir Khan has high praise for Canelo Alvarez ahead of Rocky Fielding fight

Just three months removed from his second war with Gennady Golovkin, middleweight champ Canelo Alvarez will return to the ring this evening, as he moves up in weight to battle England’s Rocky Fielding in the first fight of his new, ultra-lucrative deal with the streaming service DAZN.

Amir Khan, who is the last British boxer to battle Canelo, does not expect tonight to be a good night for his countryman Fielding.

Khan expects Canelo to dominate Fielding, and in fact, believes the Mexican would beat pretty much any boxer he’s faced with at this juncture. That includes Floyd Mayweather, who handed Canelo the lone loss on his jaw-dropping 50-1 record back in 2013.

“I like Rocky, he’s a brilliant guy but I’ve been in with Canelo and I just can’t give Rocky a chance,” Amir Khan recently told Sky Sports. “Canelo is a beast. The way he beat GGG, I just think no one can stop him. Even if [Floyd] Mayweather came back and took a rematch with him, I think he would beat Mayweather. Canelo has matured as a fighter and he is a better fighter than when I fought him. He is a great fighter now. I hope Rocky can do it, I really do, but I just can’t see how.”

While Amir Khan is expecting a blowout win for his former foe, the Mexican’s promoter Oscar De La Hoya has done his part to sell this as a competitive matchup.

“The fact he is moving up in weight is dangerous,” said De la Hoya (via BBC). “Fielding is naturally big.”

“Canelo has to be sharp, focused and in shape, because Rocky is coming in with everything and has nothing to lose.

“I am a little worried about this fight, but I think it will be great.”
