Deontay Wilder reacts after Tyson Fury TKO’s Tom Schwarz
Current WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder was not all that impressed after Tyson Fury defeated Tom Schwarz via second round TKO this weekend.
Fury had made it look easy against the previously undefeated Schwarz. The ‘Gypsy King’ dropped the German fighter in round two before eventually forcing the referee to step in and call the contest after unloading a flurry of punches.
Despite what appeared to be a flawless performance on Saturday evening in Las Vegas, Deontay Wilder believes Tyson Fury looked just ‘ok’ in his bout with Tom Schwarz.
“It was a cool performance. It wasn’t much of an opponent. I think (Schwarz) only threw four punches. He was a punching bag.” Deontay Wilder told The Athletic over the phone on Sunday. “Fury did what he was supposed to do. They’re trying to promote him up, saying things, selling this story about him over and over again, talking about him as the lineal champion… It’s building him up. But the performance (on Saturday against Tom Schwarz) was just OK.”
With his victory over Schwarz, Tyson Fury improved his record to an undefeated 28-0-1.
His lone blemish, a draw, came against the aforementioned Deontay Wilder this past December.
Meanwhile, ‘The Bronze Bomber’ was most recently seen in action last month in New York City, where he scored a sensational first round knockout victory over Dominic Breazeale.
That victory improved Deontay Wilder’s professional record to 41-0-1 overall.
It appears that both Wilder and Fury will fight one more time before their highly anticipated rematch takes place in 2020.
