Gennady Golovkin confirms previous results against Canelo Alvarez left him sour: “To see people were able to get away with this fraud”

Gennady Golovkin still looks back at his two fights against Canelo Alvarez with disappointment.

Golovkin and Alvarez first squared off in September of 2017, where they fought to a draw in a fight many thought “GGG” won. A year later, nearly to the exact day, Gennady and Canelo would have their highly anticipated rematch. This time around, it was Alvarez winning by majority decision. It was another close fight where many pundits again believed that Golovkin should’ve got his hand raised.

Since the loss, Gennady Golovkin has knocked out Steve Rolls along with beating Sergiy Derevyanchenko to win the IBF and IBO middleweight titles. Most recently he scored a stoppage win over Kamil Szeremeta to defend his belts and now there are rumors he may have a trilogy bout with Canelo Alvarez later this year.

Although he is technically 0-1-1 against Alvarez, Golovkin still thinks he won both fights which has left him with a sour taste in his mouth.

“I have the opinion that I won both fights. But some people are comfortable being delusional,” Gennady Golovkin said to Walking The Floor on his two fights with Canelo Alvarez. “Whether it soured me a bit? Yes. To see people were able to get away with this fraud, you think, ‘Really? This is how it works?’”

In order for the trilogy fight to happen, both Golovkin and Alvarez will need to win their upcoming fights, which aren’t set yet. Should that happen, which is likely, the trilogy bout will be a massive fight as it will help put a conclusion to their rivalry and each other’s legacy.

This time around, “GGG” is also looking to make it clear he won, and perhaps, he will need a knockout to do that. But, Alvarez has never been finished in his career so that will be easier said than done.
