New MMA promoter Oscar De La Hoya wants frustrated fighters to call him

By Tom Taylor - July 25, 2018

Oscar De La Hoya is no longer just a boxing promoter. The retired boxer and long-time promoter is plunging into the world with MMA, starting with a controversial but undeniably compelling rematch between former UFC light heavyweight champs Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz.

While De La Hoya doesn’t have any other big MMA bouts on his calendar, it sounds like Liddell vs. Ortiz III is just the beginning.

Speaking to Fight Hub TV, De La Hoya shared his excitement about moving into the MMA space. He also assured that Golden Boy MMA will do things differently than the other promotions that currently dominate the landscape, and that any fighters who are tired of the way things are typically done in the sport should give him a call.

“I’m really looking forward to getting involved with MMA and building a new business,” De La Hoya said (transcribed by Jesse Holland for MMAMania). “If any fighter who is an MMA fighter wants to explore a different avenue, come knock on our door, give us a call. I’m really excited about starting Golden Boy MMA. When we do things, we do them right, just like we’ve done with boxing.”

At present, the details of Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz’s third fight are scarce. While the fight itself is reportedly a go, the setting and date are not yet known.
