Paulie Malignaggi on Conor McGregor: "He thinks about me every single day"
Tom Taylor - August 15, 2018
Paulie Malignaggi was originally supposed to be an ally of Conor McGregor. The retired boxer was brought into the Irish mixed martial artist’s camp to help him prepare for his August 2017 boxing match with Floyd Mayweather Jr. Unfortunately, the pair’s relationship quickly curdled when McGregor and co. began bragging about an alleged knockdown he scored on Malignaggi in a sparring session. Feeling as though he had been misrepresented, Malignaggi packed his backs, and left McGregor’s camp.

Paulie Malignaggi gives "no balls" Conor McGregor little chance against Khabib Nurmagomedov
Tom Taylor - August 15, 2018
Retired boxer Paulie Malignaggi, who is one of Conor McGregor‘s chief doubters, unsurprisingly gives the Irishman little chance in his UFC 229 lightweight title fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov. Speaking on SiriusXM Boxing this week Malignaggi broke down McGregor’s fight with Nurmagomedov, using his 2016 loss to Nate Diaz as a key reference. “Here’s the thing about Conor, I’ve said that he has no balls and he has a problem with this fight,” Malignaggi said (transcript via MMA Fighting). “Khabib is not a guy that will put you out of your misery. Remember the Nate Diaz fight, when he shot in on Nate Diaz and got submitted? Nate Diaz is a guy you don’t want to wind up on the ground with because he’s a black belt in jiu-jitsu and he’ll submit you right away. If you’re gonna fight Nate Diaz, you have to keep the fight standing up. In that fight against Nate Diaz though, he’s getting pummelled in round two and he’s probably gonna get pummelled for the rest of the fight, so what does he do? He needs a way out of it because he doesn’t want to get beat up for four straight rounds. So what does he do? He goes, ‘If I take this fight to the ground, Nate will submit me and then it won’t look like I quit.’ Because if you’re fighting Nate Diaz, common sense tells you that you don’t want to wind up on the ground. Conor is the one that took that fight to the ground. He shot in looking to take that fight to the ground. Why did he do that? Because he’s trying to quit. If Nate puts him in a submission, he can quit and then it looks like ‘Oh well, I had to tap out.’ But really the decision was made when he shot in that he was quitting already.”

Thomas Taylor - August 11, 2018
This time last year, Conor McGregor was closing in on his headline-dominating boxing match with Floyd Mayweather Jr. His biggest opponent outside the ring, however, was retired boxer Paulie Malignaggi. After McGregor and his team began gloating about an alleged knockdown that the Irishman allegedly scored on the boxer in a sparring session, things promptly went south.

Tom Taylor - July 22, 2018
On Sunday afternoon, Anthony Smith dispatched of another MMA legend, clubbing former UFC light heavyweight champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua with first-round strikes in the UFC Hamburg main event. In the wake of this incredible knockout, Smith could have called out pretty much anybody, from Corey Anderson, who won in the UFC Hamburg co-main event, to Jimi Manuwa, who sat cage-side for the card. Instead of calling out either of these men, however, he targeted a showdown with top light heavyweight contender Alexander Gustafsson.

Conor McGregor training partner Charlie Ward eyes scrap with 50 Cent
Tom Taylor - May 30, 2018
Over the last few weeks, rapper 50 Cent has been tied tightly to Bellator MMA — though nobody is really sure why. Perhaps it’s just a bit of celebrity endorsement. Perhaps 50 is thinking about getting into the promoting game. Or maybe, just maybe, he’s thinking about strapping on some four-ounce gloves and fighting. The rapper has certainly dropped some hints to this end, calling out both Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Chael Sonnen. If 50 cent does end up stepping into the cage, Conor McGregor training partner and UFC veteran Charlie Ward is hoping to welcome him. Shortly after he defeated Martin Hudson at Bellator 200 last weekend, Ward issued a fiery callout of the rapper, who was among the many mainstream stars in attendance.

Tom Taylor - May 29, 2018
Earlier this year, reports surfaced that Dana White had reached out to boxing heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua. The reports suggested that White wanted Joshua for his much-discussed Zuffa Boxing venture, and that he’d offered him an absurdly lucrative $500 million deal. Apparently, however, that just never happened. Speaking at the UFC Liverpool post-fight press conference, White denied making such an offer to the boxer, and claimed they never even met.

Drake Riggs - May 24, 2018
“It’s not just about the money… But if people wanted it, and I felt in my heart that it was the right decision, why not? It’s just another fight. I’d have to train, I wouldn’t just do it for a paycheck. Because you know, combat sport is a serious sport. Concussions in the head and broken ribs and so on. I have to take it serious. Why make the money if you can’t enjoy it? So you have to take it serious, not always about the money. I would consider it if my heart told me it was the right thing for me.”

VIDEO | Rampage Jackson annoyed by the 50 Cent call out, "even my family asked me, 'are you fightin' 50?'"
Drake Riggs - May 23, 2018
“I don’t know [why 50 Cent thinks he can take me], man. 50 be drinking too much of that champagne he’s got. I think he’s just talkin’. Who actually thinks that 50 is tryin’ to fight? I just don’t feel like 50’s trying to step in no cage with me.

For a time, Floyd Mayweather’s potential move to the perilous world of mixed martial arts was all anybody was talking about. When Mayweather suggested that he’d be preparing for this undeniably risky career change under the tutelage of UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley, buzz about his MMA move reached a deafening crescendo. Over the last few weeks, however, this talk has quieted down significantly. Mayweather and his camp have grown quiet about a potential MMA move, and the fans seem to have lost interest in seeing it happen.
