Audie Attar, the manager behind Conor McGregor and Manny Pacquiao, believes Floyd Mayweather would lose to both men if he fought them in 2020. Mayweather holds wins over both Pacquiao and McGregor. He fought Pacquiao in 2015, winning a decision in a fight that was widely panned for its lack of action. He then fought McGregor in 2017, in the UFC star’s boxing debut, and picked up a 10th-round TKO win.

UFC superstar Conor McGregor believes there is a “very high probability” of the Irishman boxing against the legend Manny Pacquiao in 2021. McGregor returns to the Octagon for the first time in a year next weekend at UFC 257 when he takes on rival Dustin Poirier in the main event of the evening. With a win over Poirier, it’s expected that McGregor will call out UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov for a rematch. But while his focus is on MMA at the moment, McGregor can’t help but look around at other opportunities for him in the world of combat sports, namely in the boxing ring.

WBC interim lightweight champion Ryan Garcia has plans to hang up his boxing gloves and try his hand at mixed martial arts in the future. Garcia, 22, is currently riding an impressive knockout win over Luke Campbell, and has been chomping at the bit for a fight with Floyd Mayweather protege Gervonta Davis. Beyond that, the young star could find himself in fights with the likes of Teofimo Lopez, Devin Haney, and Vasily Lomachenko.

Boxing superstar Sergey Kovalev tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs ahead of his upcoming matchup against Bektemir Melikuziev. BoxingScene.com’s Dan Rafael reported that Kovalev tested positive for synthetic testosterone in a VADA drug test administered on December 30 in Las Vegas. The test came back on Wednesday and Team Kovalev was alerted of the positive drug test. This means that Kovalev’s fight with Melikuziev, which was set to take place in California, is likely going to be canceled. The letter that VADA sent out was leaked in the report and shared for fans and media. Below is what VADA said about Kovalev.

However, there hasn’t been much talk of it since, but according to the boxer, he wants to compete against McGregor.

UFC president Dana White gave an update on the lack of talks with boxing legend Floyd Mayweather, saying it’s because “the world imploded.” White and Mayweather were famously photographed sitting courtside at an LA Clippers vs. Boston Celtics NBA game in Los Angeles.  But that was back in December 2019, well before COVID-19 caused a global pandemic. White had said at the time of the meeting that he had an agreement with Mayweather to work together in 2020, but that never happened. White said last summer that he had some talks going on with Mayweather, but so far, those talks have gone nowhere.

Mexican boxing champion Canelo Alvarez has made a bold prediction for a potential trilogy fight with Gennadiy Golovkin. Canelo and “GGG” have fought twice before. The first bout ended with a controversial draw. The second also ended in controversy, as Canelo was awarded a decision some fans felt should have gone GGG’s way.

Logan is currently slated for a high profile exhibition bout with undefeated boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr. At the same time, his brother Jake has also been making headlines in the combat world, having recently knocked out former NBA star Nate Robinson, and called out a host of MMA stars, most notably former two-division UFC champ Conor McGregor.

Pettis recently completed the final fight of his UFC contract and decided to sign with PFL, where he will get a chance to compete in the promotion’s season three lightweight tournament and win a $1 million grand prize. Now that Pettis is no longer with the UFC, he’s hoping to do things that he wasn’t able to earlier in his career. One of those things is stepping into the boxing ring.

Paul has been the talk of the combat sports world since he knocked out former NBA star Nate Robinson in a boxing match late last year. Since that win, he’s kept his name in the headlines by calling out a number of MMA stars, most notably, McGregor.

Former UFC champion Henry Cejudo took a shot at boxer Ryan Garcia, telling the vacant WBC interim lightweight champion to “shine my shoes.” Garcia scored a brutal seventh-round TKO victory over Campbell on Saturday during a highly-anticipated battle between the two lightweights. Campbell was able to score a knockdown in the second round of the fight but Garcia was able to survive it and hold on. In the seventh round, Garcia landed a nasty liver punch that left Campbell unable to continue, declaring him the winner. With Garcia fresh in the news, Cejudo decided to take a shot at the boxing champ.

UFC president Dana White slammed YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul, suggesting that UFC women’s champion Amanda Nunes would put him in a coma. Paul has become one of the biggest names in combat sports ever since he scored a viral KO over Nate Robinson on the undercard of the Mike Tyson vs. Roy Jones Jr. PPV. Since then, numerous high-profile boxers, UFC fighters, and even celebrities have called Paul out for a fight. Most recently he was connected to a matchup with Ben Askren, the former UFC welterweight. White has had some choice words about Paul in recent weeks for his choice of opponents, suggesting Nunes would KO him.

Mayweather and Paul are expected to meet in a controversial boxing exhibition match this February. Given that Mayweather is regarded as one of the best boxers ever, and that Paul is 0-1 as a pro boxer, the widespread expectation is that Paul is in for a beating—whether he has a size advantage or not.

Pound-for-pound great Canelo Alvarez is reportedly set to face Avni Yildirim in his next boxing match that’s set to take place in early 2021. Alvarez just defeated Callum Smith by a decision on December 19 in a lopsided super middleweight title fight. Although that fight went the 12-round distance, Alvarez didn’t take much if any damage against Smith and so he’s able to get back in the ring fairly quickly in 2021. After taking a few weeks off to spend time with his family for Christmas, Alvarez will get back in camp soon for a fight just two months away.

Joshua and Fury currently stand atop the heavyweight boxing landscape, as Joshua holds  the WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, and IBO titles, and Fury holds the WBC title and is the lineal heavyweight champ.
