Mayweather is retired from boxing, though he’s kept the door open for a return and has teased high-profile matchups against MMA fighters like Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor. Still, “Money” mentioned recently that he won’t fight again in 2020 and instead is planning on getting into coaching to teach the next wave of boxing stars the sweet science. If that’s what happens, Tyson believes he will be an excellent trainer.

In 2019, at BKFC 6, Paulie Malignaggi stepped through the ropes for a bare-knuckle boxing match with MMA product Artem Lobov. Despite possessing far more pure boxing experience, Malignaggi lost a tight decision to his rival. Given the competitive nature of the bout, there was some talk of a rematch between the two. Speaking to BJPENN.com recently, Lobov confirmed that he was actually approached about competing in a boxing rematch with Malignaggi.

Boxing promoter Bob Arum has blasted UFC president Dana White for continuing to put on shows despite the coronavirus pandemic. The combat sports industry has been put on hold to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Boxing events have been postponed, and the UFC has already held off on three fight cards. However, Dana White is doing everything he can to resume business. He is currently in negotiations to finalize a venue for the upcoming UFC 249 card on April 18. White also expects UFC 250 on May 9 will still happen. The fight cards will likely take place using a small production team from a closed arena and with strict safety precautions. However, with so little still known about the coronavirus and no vaccine available, holding any event will still pose a risk.

Artem Lobov is interested in fighting Paulie Malignaggi again but this time doing it in boxing. Lobov and Malignaggi fought last summer at BKFC 6 where it was a highly-anticipated bout. But, it was “The Russian Hammer” who edged out a decision win. Following the fight, many thought a rematch would make sense but Dave Feldman told BJPENN.com, Malignaggi was unlikely to fight in BKFC again.

He explained that his mother recently visited him in New York City, and that she began to feel ill after returning home to Sweden. Her boyfriend also fell ill, and later tested positive for COVID-19.

Many boxing and martial arts gyms have shut down due to the coronavirus outbreak sweeping the globe, making it hard for athletes to train for fights. Not only that, but venues can’t be booked and it’s difficult to get excited for big fights right now given what’s going on in the world. With the world economy in disarray, it doesn’t seem like the right time for a big-money combat sports event, which Mayweather’s return would qualify as.
