Tyson Fury calls for an investigation against the judge who scored the fight for Deontay Wilder
Tyson Fury nearly shocked the world last night in Los Angeles. Fury challenged WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder in a highly anticipated fight, with both men entering the contest sporting undefeated professional records.
Ultimately, Fury, who was the underdog, found success against Wilder throughout success fight. That was until Wilder knocked him to the canvas, twice. The second time it appeared the fight was over. However, much to the shock of the ‘Bronze Bomber’ and everyone watching, Tyson Fury got up and the fight went to the decision.
Many expected the judges to pick Fury as the winner, as did both Showtime and BT Sport, the two broadcasters, had the fight in Fury’s favor. Ultimately, that wasn’t the case, as it ended up being ruled a split-draw. Even though Fury was disappointed it was a draw, speaking at a press conference on Sunday, Fury seemed irate with Alejandro Rochin, the judge who scored it 115-111 for Wilder.
“To be honest with you, I’ve never seen a worse decision in my life,” Tyson Fury said. “I don’t know what fight them judges are watching. The guy that had it 115-111, he had me losing the first six rounds and I don’t know what he was watching. But this is boxing and it’s not the first time this has happened. I think this is as bad of a decision as the first Lennox Lewis, (Evander) Holyfield fight.
”It’s stuff like this that gives boxing a bad name. Reports like this, all the media today will report bad stuff. Controversy, this that and the other. Everybody in boxing is saying it’s a very controversial thing. Time and time again we see it.”
Fury is right. More times than not, fans appear disgruntled with how judges score fights and call boxing a fixed-sport because of it. Take both the GGG-Canelo fights, for example, fans were displeased with the way the judges had scored both contests.
Now that a day has settled, Fury is still not happy with what Rochin scored the fight. He now wants the WBC to launch an investigation into Rochin’s judging. Not only that but Fury knows what kind of punishment should be handed down to Rochin.
“He needs banning from boxing forever because he can’t judge clearly,” Fury said. “What was his name? Rochin needs sacking. Because even without the knockdowns, he still had me losing the fight.”
There is no word if the WBC will be launching an investigation into the judging. What is known, is Fury still believes he won the fight, and he still remains unbeaten.
Do you agree with Tyson Fury that the WBC should launch an investigation into judge Alejandro Rochin?
