Alexa Grasso to Return to the Octagon on February 4
Earlier this year, on the main card of the UFC’s latest trip to Mexico, Mexican strawweight Alexa Grasso made her long awaited UFC debut against a game Heather Jo Clark. Grasso would win this debut with a dominant unanimous decision, improving her record to a flawless 9-0 in the process.
In victory, Grasso proved that she absolutely deserves a spot in the UFC’s ever-growing strawweight division, and left fans eager for her next bout. Now, the details of that next bout have emerged.
Grasso will make the sophomore effort of her UFC career on February 4, inside the Toyota Center in Houston Texas. She will do so against strawweight veteran Felice Herrig in a bout that marks a substantial step up in competition.
When we last saw Herrig in action, she scored a quick submission win over Hawaiian prospect Kailin Curran. With this win, she rebounded from a lopsided loss to Team Alpha Male staple Paige VanZant. The 32-year-old strawweight veteran will enter her bout with Grasso with an 11-6 overall record.
Prior to her debut win over Clark, Grasso went 4-0 under the Invicta Fighting Championship banner, scoring a TKO over Alida Gray and decisions over Ashley Cummins, Mizuki Inoue, and Jodie Esquibel. Before her run in the Invicta cage, she scored 4 wins on the regional circuit, including two knockouts in less than 15 seconds. She stands out as one of the finest strikers in the strawweight division.
The UFC’s February 4 return to Houston will be headlined by a featherweight battle between top-10 staple Dennis Bermudez, and fan favorite Chan Sung Jung – better known as the Korean Zombie. Other highlights of this February card include a light heavyweight battle between Ovince St. Preux and Jan Blachowicz, and a lightweight scrap between Evan Dunham and Abel Trujillo.
