Overeem Thinks Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather Are Lying About Their Pay

In the wake of UFC 202, much has been made of Conor McGregor’s record-breaking payday of $3 million. Of course, that payday doesn’t hold a candle to some of the recent purses of boxing superstar Floyd Mayweather, who has piled up hundreds of millions over his last few fights.

Considering the paltry paydays of many other fighters, it’s not surprising there’s a bit of jealousy when McGregor and Mayweather’s massive paydays are discussed. In the case of upcoming UFC heavyweight title challenger Alistair Overeem, however, it’s not a case of jealousy, but complete disbelief.

During a UFC 203 Monday media lunch in Los Angeles, Overeem had this to say of McGregor and Mayweather’s payouts:

“My answer to that, to Mayweather and to Conor, is ‘let me see some bank statements’. You can talk, you can say it, you can put it out there in tweets, but let me see a bank statement that says UFC wired x amount of money, because it’s always going to be this way. People lie. It’s the 21st century. Social media is fake.”

“Personally, I have a hard time believing both of them about their income,” he added.

Despite Overeem’s scepticism, there is little doubt that McGregor actually made $3 million for his UFC 202 rematch with Nate Diaz. Perhaps, however, there’s been some embellishment in terms of what he makes from pay-per-view percentages and undisclosed bonuses. What do you think? Sound off PENN Nation!
