Michael Chiesa tried to face Bo Nickal at UFC 290. After Tresean Gore pulled out of his UFC 290 scrap against Nickal due to injury, the UFC was in need of an opponent. The promotion ended up settling on Val Woodburn, but Michael Chiesa claims he had previously spoke to the UFC about stepping up on short notice to fight Nickal and the making a quick turnaround to compete this weekend against Holland.

UFC middleweight contender Paul Craig has explained why he called out Bo Nickal. ‘Bearjew’ made his middleweight debut over the weekend at UFC London. Riding a two-fight losing streak, the Scottish fighter faced off with Andre Muniz. The Brazilian entered the matchup off a submission loss to Brendan Allen and later suffered a devastating stoppage at the loss of Paul Craig on Saturday.

Bo Nickal expects that he and Dricus Du Plessis will fight in the future. At UFC 290, Nickal and Du Plessis both picked up big wins. However, Nickal is just 2-0 in the UFC and Du Plessis is set to fight for the belt next, so they are far apart in the rankings. Despite that, Bo Nickal says he was watching Dricus Du Plessis vs. Robert Whittaker closely as he thinks he will face the South African in the future and calls the fight “easy money”.

Tonight’s UFC 290 pay-per-view main card was kicked off by a middleweight matchup between Bo Nickal and Val Woodburn. Nickal (5-0 MMA) was returning to action for the first time since scoring a first-round submission win over Jamie Pickett in his official Octagon debut this past March at 285. The highly touted wrestling phenom had won all four of his professional fights by way of first-round stoppage heading into tonight’s contest.

In the main event, ‘Bones’ will face Ciryl Gane in his first fight in over three years. Furthermore, it’ll also be Jones’ first fight up at heavyweight, as he’ll attempt to win the vacant title. Francis Ngannou famously left the promotion in January, leaving the championship behind in the process.
