UFC commentator Paul Felder reenters USADA testing pool, return to fighting still not guaranteed

Paul Felder has made his way back in the USADA testing pool, but a return to the Octagon isn’t a lock. Felder’s last pro MMA fight took place back in late 2020 against Rafael dos Anjos. “The Irish Dragon” lost the fight via unanimous decision, and announced his retirement from pro MMA competition the following year. When Felder retired, he said that he was comfortable with the decision given his age and the lack of fire for competing. Fast forward to 2023 and perhaps there is a newfound spark.

Last Saturday night at UFC Singapore, Chan Sung Jung aka The Korean Zombie walked away from mixed martial arts. It came after his knockout loss to Max Holloway, with the veteran going down swinging – quite literally.

Paul Felder replaces Joe Rogan for UFC 289 commentary team duties

Former UFC fighter Paul Felder is set to replace Joe Rogan on commentary this weekend for the UFC 289 pay-per-view event. This Saturday night, the Ultimate Fighting Championship returns to Canada for the first time since before the pandemic. They’ll be heading to Vancouver for UFC 289, with Amanda Nunes vs Irene Aldana serving as the main event of the evening. While the card isn’t entirely stacked from top to bottom, we will also be getting to see the return of Charles Oliveira when he clashes with Beneil Dariush in a vital lightweight collision.

UFC commentator Paul Felder has issued an apology after being threatened by Bobby Green for what went down at UFC Vegas 71 last weekend. On Saturday night, Bobby Green battled it out with Jared Gordon. While Green was originally awarded a TKO finish, it was later turned into a no contest due to an accidental headbutt on Gordon. In the aftermath, Bobby was infuriated with the decision – and he was also pretty upset by Paul Felder’s commentary.

Paul Felder uncertain if Conor McGregor fights in 2023, claims the lightweight division is "passing him by badly"

Paul Felder isn’t sold on Conor McGregor fighting again. McGregor has not fought since UFC 264 in July of 2021 when he had his trilogy match against Dustin Poirier. At the end of the first round, McGregor broke his leg and since then he has been rehabbing it. Although he hasn’t fought in a year-and-a-half, McGregor has said he will return, which Felder isn’t sure of.

UFC middleweight Marvin Vettori and commentator Paul Felder got into a heated social media exchange during the UFC 266 broadcast. Felder was filling in for Joe Rogan in the UFC 266 commentary booth, and Vettori was clearly not thrilled with the job that he did behind the desk. The UFC middleweight contender took to his social media during the broadcast to tweet out that he is not a fan of Felder and that he had pressed mute on his television because he couldn’t stand to listen to him anymore. Following what Vettori wrote, Felder also saw the comments from the Italian and he fired back at the middleweight for taking to social media to publicly blast his call.

The typical commentary team for UFC pay-per-view cards features Cormier and Joe Rogan as analysts and Jon Anik as the play-by-play man. For UFC 263, however, the promotion has decided to make one change, as Cormier is out of the booth for this event and Felder is in. first reported on the change in the booth. Cormier said earlier this week that he has a family commitment this weekend, which is why he is not working the event.

Felder is in Fight Island where he will be doing his usual commentary duties. The No. 8 fighter in the lightweight division, Felder is coming off of back-to-back losses to Dan Hooker and Rafael dos Anjos. However, both of those were competitive fights and there’s no shame in losing to either fighter. There was some talk that Felder could potentially hang up his gloves, but he ended up changing his mind. He then signed a contract extension with the UFC for several more fights. He is not done yet.

UFC lightweight contender Paul Felder did an interview while getting stitched up following his war with Rafael dos Anjos at UFC Vegas 14. Felder stepped up on five days’ notice to take on dos Anjos in the main event of UFC Vegas 14 on Saturday night. Despite taking the fight on super short notice, Felder put up a heck of a fight, ultimately losing a split decision on the judges’ scorecards. It was an incredible performance by a fighter who wasn’t even expected to compete on the card.

What's next for Rafael dos Anjos and Paul Felder after UFC Vegas 14?

In the main event of UFC Vegas 14, Rafael dos Anjos was making his return to the lightweight division to take on Paul Felder who took the fight on short notice. Entering the fight, both men were looking to get back into the win column and get a top-five opponent next time out. Yet, it was dos Anjos who used his grappling to dominate the fight and win a clear decision, although one judge somehow had it scored for Felder.
