Former UFC champion Brock Lesnar was a guest on ESPN’s SportsCenter this morning where he announced that he would be returning to the octagon at UFC 200 on July 9 to fight Mark Hunt. Lesnar, who has not fought since his 2011 loss to Alistair Overeem, has opened as a +120 underdog against Hunt, this according to @MMAOddsAlert:

Earlier today on ESPN’s SportsCenter former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar announced that he would be returning to the octagon to fight Mark Hunt at UFC 200 on July 9 in Las Vegas. Lesnar has not competed in mixed martial arts since his 2011 TKO loss to Alistair Overeem at UFC 141. The former champions last win came via submission against Shane Carwin at UFC 116 in 2010.

Yesterday evening UFC officials announced that former heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar would be returning to the octagon this summer to fight on the UFC 200 fight card set for July 9 in Las Vegas. Following the announcement, which occurred during the UFC 199 pay-per-view broadcast, the UFC released the following new preview for UFC 200 which includes “The Beast”:

During last night’s UFC 199 pay-per-view broadcast UFC officials announced that former heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar would be returning to fight at July’s blockbuster UFC 200 event in Las Vegas. An opponent for “The Beast” was not given at the time, but we now know that an announcement will be made Monday June 6 on ESPN.

According to a report from MMAFighting‘s Ariel Helwani, UFC officials are currently in serious talks with former heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar about returning to fight at July’s blockbuster UFC 200 event in Las Vegas. The report states that both sides are close to finalizing the deal and that Lesnar’s return to mixed martial arts could be announced imminently.

Former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar has done what very few fighters in the UFC can say they have accomplished. Lesnar, who came from the world of professional wrestling transitioned to MMA and became a UFC world champion, winning the UFC heavyweight title and successfully defending it twice. However, the UFC belt that so many fighters dream of hanging in their own trophy room one day is not something Lesnar really cares about. In fact, the one-time NCAA champion says that he doesn’t even know where his UFC belts are.
