While previously hinting at retirement, Condit could not get away from the fight game for too long following his title fight loss to the now former champion Robbie Lawler.

Prior to Carlos Condit’s UFC 195 welterweight title fight with Robbie Lawler, the ‘Natural Born Killer’ revealed that the fight very well could be his last before retiring. After losing a controversial split decision, Condit stated that unless he got an immediate rematch with Lawler, he was on hiatus until further notice. The UFC opted to book Robbie Lawler vs. Tyron Woodley for UFC 201, which prompted Condit to take a fight with Demian Maia.

After much speculation as to whether or not he would return to the Octagon following his controversial split decision loss to Robbie Lawler for the welterweight championship, Carlos Condit will be returning to the Octagon at UFC 202 on August 20th to fight Demian Maia. While Condit is going into the bout after a loss, Maia will enter the contest on a 5-fight win streak that saw him most recently submit Matt Brown at UFC 198 in Brazil.

The former UFC interim welterweight champion said after his title fight with Robbie Lawler at UFC 195 that he would only be fighting in big fights that really got him excited. Condit mentioned at the time that it was basically the rematch with Lawler for the belt that he was interested in.

It’s been 6 months since Robbie Lawler and Carlos Condit had their welterweight title fight at UFC 195. The fight, which was an extremely controversial one in terms of scoring, saw Lawler retain his championship via split decision. Prior to the bout, Condit revealed the fans that he wasn’t sure how many more fights he had left in him. Following the fight, and controversial decision, Condit decided that if he wasn’t getting an immediate rematch, it was likely time for him to go on an indefinite hiatus.

Ultimately, Condit was awarded the unanimous decision win, although many believed that Diaz should have won the fight given the fact that he was the aggressor throughout the entire fight. Since then, there has always been talk amongst fans of a potential rematch between the pair all these years later, however nothing ever came to fruition.
