Even after all of the trash talk between Cody Garbrandt and TJ Dillashaw, the former friends and teammates were able to shake hands after their UFC 217 title fight. It was a close fight where Garbrandt could have possibly gotten the finish in the first round if there was a bit more time on the clock, dropping Dillashaw in the last seconds of the opening round. However, Dillashaw recovered well and dropped Garbradnt twice in the second round and got the finish.

Over the weekend, in the co-main event of the wickedly stacked UFC 217, arch rivals Cody Garbrandt and TJ Dillashaw finally stepped into the cage together for an anticipated bantamweight title fight. Despite a strong opening round from Garbrandt, Dillashaw ultimately sealed the deal in the second, putting his foe down with a blistering salvo, and capturing the UFC bantamweight title in the process. In the wake of this fight, Garbrandt quickly began campaigning for an immediate rematch.

Urijah Faber watched his former friend and teammate TJ Dillashaw knockout his star pupil Cody Garbrandt in the co-main event of UFC 217 last night in New York. After being rocked by “No Love” late in round one, Dillashaw was able to turn the tide with a big head kick in round two. Moments later TJ would drop Cody with a punch and then put Garbrandt away with some viscous ground and pound. (Watch the finish here).

Last night, in the co-main event of UFC 217, estranged former teammates Cody Garbrandt and TJ Dillashaw finally stepped into the cage to settle their score. It was a wild one while it lasted. Though Garbrandt very nearly knocked Dillashaw out in the closing seconds of the first frame, Dillashaw bounced back in the second, putting his foe down with a head kick to capture the bantamweight crown.

Cody Garbrandt has released a statement following his disappointing second-round knockout loss to bitter rival TJ Dillashaw at UFC 217 in New York. Dillashaw was able to catch Garbrandt with a big punch midway through the second-round that sent “No Love” crashing to the canvas (watch that here). From there, Dillashaw would unleash some viscous ground and pound that forced the referee to step in and stop the contest.

TJ Dillashaw reclaimed the UFC bantamweight title at tonight’s UFC 217 event in New York defeating Cody Garbrandt via second-round knockout. Dillashaw was able to catch Cody with a big right hand that sent Garbrandt crashing to the canvas. From there Dillashaw would put Cody away with some brutal ground and pound. A bantamweight title fight between current champion Cody Garbrandt and T.J. Dillashaw served as the co-main event of UFC 217 in New York. Round one begins and Cody comes out quickly. Dillashaw switches stances. Cody throws a low kick. Dillashaw catches Cody with a nice knee to the body. Garbrandt circles out. TJ with a low kick, Cody responds with a left hand over the top. TJ fakes a spinning back fist. Cody comes forward with a head kick that is blocked. TJ presses forward. He misses with a head kick. Cody circles out and then lands a nice kick to the body. TJ is using a lot of movement. Cody presses forward with a combination that lands. TJ fires back with a wild right. Garbrandt tells him to bring it on. Both men are throwing wildly now. Cody with a beautiful left hook. TJ leaps in with a front kick and then follows that strike up with a low kick. Both men are having trouble finding their range. TJ with a right hand. Cody replies with a jab. Another nice right hand from Dillashaw. Cody circles. TJ comes forward but Cody catches him with a right hand. TJ hits the deck. Cody charges in with punches but the horn sounds to end round one.

It seems like this TJ Dillashaw and Cody Garbrandt feud has been going on forever. Since the beginning, we’ve gone through the Duane Ludwig controversy, the allegations of steroid use, Dillashaw injuring another Team Alpha Male member in training, but at the beginning of this year it was all about training footage. Garbrandt claimed he knocked out Dillashaw in training and threatened to release the tape. Dillashaw called Garbrandt’s bluff and after awhile, the talk stopped. That is, until now. Just days before the two settle their differences at UFC 217, Garbrandt drops the video. This guy is a liar he said I never koed him, that there is no video! Also that he has never took PEDs and he never cheap shotted a former teammate stealing his dream from under him! The UFC had one last press conference today to promote the year’s biggest card so far. With the cast of characters contained in the triple-title fights at UFC 217 gathered together three days from bell time, it was bound to get heated even before the staredowns. Cody Garbrandt has not been shy about saying all sorts of wild things about his opponent TJ Dillashaw throughout the build up, but something he said today at the presser made a lot of people pause. Back in the beginning of October, the UFC announced a partnership with a drink company co-founded by Kobe Bryant named BODYARMOR. The press release revealed just how involved they would be, especially inside the new UFC Performance Institute. Throughout the recent build-up for UFC 217, Cody Garbrandt has had two fighters on his mind: TJ Dillashaw and Demetrious Johnson. He’s not looking past his bantamweight title defense, but he’s been vocal about a ‘business move’ to challenge the dominant flyweight champ for awhile now. The lure of a huge fight and the chance to become a two-division champion is easy to understand, but Garbrandt went even further in a recent interview. Belt or not, Johnson is still the fight. “My eyes are set on becoming a name that’s going to live on forever from the UFC and MMA. I’d like to go down and fight Demetrious ‘Mighty Mouse’ [Johnson] after this fight. I’m not looking past [TJ Dillashaw]. I’m so happy for ‘Mighty Mouse’, him and his wife and family are amazing, he’s a great champion for kids to look up to, he’s the pound-for-pound best. No animosity but I can make [125 pounds], if he wants to come up to [135 pounds], it doesn’t matter. That’s a fight that I would like. That’s a fight that makes sense. There’s a lot of things for me to gain going down to 125. I’d be a two-weight world champion just like Conor McGregor. I can simultaneously defend both belts.”

The UFC has put together two impressive UFC conference calls back-to-back. Not only did Cody Garbrandt double down on his challenge to Demetrious Johnson, he declared that his fight with TJ Dillashaw at UFC 217 is the real main event. Today, Michael Bisping responded to the dig with a comeback of his own. Of course, it can’t end there. Cody Garbrandt is about to squash one of the biggest rivalries in MMA with the violence that awaits us at UFC 217. He’ll be defending his title against TJ Dillashaw, who needs no introduction. Potentially stacking back-to-back wins over long-time bantamweight king Dominick Cruz and former champion Dillashaw, would be a huge feather in the hat of Garbrandt. However, the current belt holder doesn’t want to just stop there, he wants to fight Demetrious Johnson next to become a two-division champion. He’s talked about it before, but he doubled-down on this ‘business move’ today on the UFC 217 conference call. “With a knockout over TJ [Dillashaw] I’ve wiped out the division. There’s a big gap between myself, then it goes [Dominick Cruz], and then TJ, and then it falls off from there so TJ is my next adversary, my next challenge. I know what he brings to the table. I’m focused and prepared on that, to wipe him out and then go on from there. I always like to have a fight ahead of myself, you know, plan ahead, and obviously I’m focused on TJ, but Mighty Mouse is next at 125 pounds. I can make 125 on November 4th if I wanted to.”

You often hear that there are two sides to every story and the truth usually lies somewhere in the middle. With the feud between former Team Alpha Male teammates Cody Garbrandt and TJ Dillashaw, there is one particular story that claims Dillashaw ended a Team Alpha Male teammate’s career. Garbrandt claims Dillashaw hit Chris Holdsworth with a cheap shot to the back of the head during practice, badly concussing the TUF 18 season winner.

Two former teammates will meet in the Octagon for the UFC bantamweight championship title at UFC 217 on November 4. Champion Cody Garbrandt will look to defend his title against former teammate and former UFC bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw. As the two have had a long history training with each other at Team Alpha Male, Garbrandt started his professional MMA career when Dillashaw was on his way to winning the UFC title. With being able to train against the top fighter in the UFC bantamweight division, Garbrandt said he knew it was only a matter of time before he would be holding the belt.

Georges St-Pierre is certainly a big star but his future is undetermined as we will have to see if his own plans and abilities are set for a lengthy return. So who will be the next in the UFC roster that will bring in the audiences like Jones, Rousey, and McGregor?
