Conor McGregor looking to knock Floyd Mayweather out in potential fight
While Conor McGregor is undoubtably one of the most dominant UFC champions in the sport right now, the possibility of the Irish superstar making the jump to boxing has fight fans split down the middle in regards to how they feel the two-weight champ would fair in the boxing ring.
While some believe that McGregor’s precision striking, combined with the power in his left hand, would make for a successful transition to the boxing ring, others believe that regardless of his boxing abilities in MMA, McGregor doesn’t stand a chance against top ranked boxers, especially Floyd Mayweather.
This week, it was revealed that McGregor had received his boxing license in California, although he had been denied a license to box in Nevada due to insufficient experience as a professional boxer. Despite that, McGregor receiving his license in California threw fuel on the fire of rumors of a potential boxing match with Floyd Mayweather.
During a recent interview, McGregor spoke about the possibility of fighting Mayweather, saying:
“With the work ethic that I have, focused solely on the sport of boxing, there’s no telling what I could do. I would not go in there just to show up, I’d go in there to knock him (Floyd Mayweather) out, and that’s it. He can be hit. He’s been hit before. Age waits for no man also, so I know they know that. I know the size is on my side, I know the reach is on my side, I know the youth is on my side. So there’s a lot to lose for them, so that’s why they’re scrambling. McGregor got his boxing license ‘Oh, Floyd’s in the Bahamas, he don’t give a fuck.’ They’re scrambling right now, but that’s okay. I’ll leave them scrambling. I have some other boxing opportunities, some potential opponents in mind, some previous Floyd opponents, I can bring in anyone in the game. So we’ll see what happens.”
One of the potential opponents McGregor could face is former champion Paul Malignaggi, who was quick to call McGregor out on social media after finding out that he had received his boxing license in California.
