Conor McGregor roasts “senior” Floyd Mayweather

Though it’s still not official, we seem to be closer than ever to a record-breaking boxing mega-fight between UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor and undefeated pugilist Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Over the course of the long and winding road that has led us to this point – a point when the fight seems to be a signature or two away from fruition – McGregor and Mayweather have exchanged much in the way of trash talk.

Early Tuesday morning, that trend continued, as McGregor shared a photo of his rival, pretending to confuse the younger Mayweather with his father, Floyd Mayweather Sr. The subtext here is that, should McGregor and Mayweather collide, Mayweather will be the much, much older man in the ring. He’s 40 years old, while McGregor is just 28.

See McGregor’s Tweet below:

“Man, much respect to Floyd Senior still getting a few rounds in at the gym,” the Irishman commented on a picture of Floyd Jr. “I hope I can still train at that age. Respect.”

McGregor was last seen in the cage in November, when he artfully clobbered Eddie Alvarez to claim the UFC lightweight title. Given that he still owned the UFC featherweight crown at the time, this made him the first fighter in the promotion’s history to hold titles in two weight classes simultaneously.

Mayweather, meanwhile, has not stepped into the ring since September of 2013, when he defeated Andre Berto by decision, extending his record to a sparkling 49-0 in the process.

Do you think Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor will end up meeting in the boxing ring? If so, does McGregor have any chance against the experienced boxer?
