Conor McGregor’s striking coach announces who will corner for Floyd Mayweather fight

On August 26, one of, if not the most talked about fight in combat sports history will take place as undefeated defensive boxing great, Floyd Mayweather will take on current UFC lightweight and former UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor.

The two superstars from their respective sports have gained a ton of fans and buzz throughout their careers and arranged what many, including UFC President Dana White, thought impossible.

Being just about two months away from the fight date, Conor McGregor’s striking coach Owen Roddy spoke on this week’s episode of The MMA Hour and gave some insight on their fight camp. Roddy announced who will be cornering McGregor for the massive money fight, and it could be a bit of a surprise to some.

“At the moment, it’s going to be me, John (Kavanagh), possibly Artem (Lobov) and I think there’s four,” Roddy said (transcribed by MMA Fighting). “Obviously he’ll have to get his own cut man and stuff like that. He hasn’t sorted that just yet. But it’ll definitely be myself, John and Artem at the moment.”

Roddy added they may possibly add another coach into the mix when they arrive in the states for training. However, they haven’t reached out to any boxing specific specialists as they feel they already have a gameplan to not just serve Mayweather his first professional loss, but believe they have the blueprint to KO the defensive boxing genius.

“We’re not bringing anybody in as of yet, but who knows down the line,” Roddy said. “We’re gonna head over the states in the next couple of weeks. But at the moment, we’re in Dublin, we’re all working together. We came up with a game plan that we think can shock the world and we’re gonna stick to that for the time being.”

The team also has plans to bring in some sparring partners for the camp in the states. However, no names were mentioned as Roddy said none were confirmed as of yet.
