John Kavanagh gives inside update on Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather
Throughout the course of 2017, conflicting reports have continued to emerge regarding a potential Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather superfight. While the NSAC has confirmed that negotiations between the two parties are ongoing, both Floyd Mayweather and UFC President Dana White have stated that they are quite far off from reaching a deal.
Despite that, both parties seem to be in agreement that a deal needs to be reached so that two of the greatest combat sports athletes of this generation can meet in the ring.
During a recent appearance on Submission Radio, SBG Ireland head coach John Kavanagh gave the inside scoop on the scrap:
“It seems like it’s coming. When or how definite, I don’t know, but it’s looking more likely,” Kavanagh told Submission Radio. “And the two guys seem to want it and they’re making moves towards it, but I won’t lie, I don’t know is the short answer.
“There seems to be a lot of steps to get over with various commissions involved and different promotions involved and so on and so forth, but it’s a fight that’s getting more and more momentum every day and more and more people want to see it. So if you ask just me, my personal uneducated opinion on it, I would say that I believe it’s gonna happen.”
“I love challenges and Conor is a lot more competitive than me,” he said. “But I would love the challenge of it and the spectacle of it and the level of interest. I mean, back in the day there was Muhummad Ali and (Antonio Inoki).
“So yeah, I would love to see the challenge for Conor to test himself in that area,” he said. “We’re kind of used to being told what we can’t do, but we don’t pay too much attention to it, we just get on and make things happen.”
