NSAC chairman suggests second hearing for Nate Diaz regarding water bottle incident
On Wednesday, Conor McGregor saved a lot of money after his second hearing with the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC).
The second hearing was for the water bottle war that took place between McGregor and team Nate Diaz at the UFC 202 pre-fight press conference.
McGregor was initially served a $75,000 fine along with a public service announcement valued at $75,000. In addition, McGregor was ordered to perform community service. After the second hearing on Wednesday, the NSAC agreed to settle on the punishment for $25,000 and 25 hours of community service.
Diaz accepted his punishment from the NSAC back in December, which was a $50,000 fine and 50 hours of community service. Both McGregor and Diaz’s initial punishment was a 2.5 percent fine of their respective $3 million and $2 million fight purses for UFC 202.
With McGregor’s punishment being reduced, Damon Martin of FOX Sports reported that Nevada Commission chairman Anthony Marnell suggested at the end of McGregor’s second hearing that Diaz also be granted a second hearing to keep both fighters on an “even and equal playing field.” Marnell said that it is likely that he will be reaching out to Diaz to schedule a second hearing with the NSAC.
With Conor McGregor coming to an agreement with the NSAC on his punishment, this was one step that “The Notorious” made clear was in his plans to fight Floyd Mayweather in a boxing match. McGregor was initially denied a boxing license in the state of Nevada with his fine with the NSAC still being unresolved.
With Dana White now on board saying that he believes the boxing match between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor will take place, it all seems to be just a matter of time. One just has to wonder what Nate Diaz has in mind with the boxing match that seems to be coming together.
