BREAKING | Conor McGregor Boxing Floyd Mayweather Officially The 2nd Biggest PPV of All Time

Justin Golightly - December 14, 2017

Conor McGregor can now boast about another record to his already ridiculous list. He already shattered his pay scale with his historical boxing bout with Floyd Mayweather. There were numerous conflicting reports about how well the blockbuster superfight performed, but not we have the true numbers and they’re still nothing to turn your nose up at. The SHOWTIME pay-per-view ended up doing 4.3 million in PPV buys, just 3ooK short of breaking the record that still holds solid for Mayweather’s fight with Manny Pacquiao. SHOWTIME Sports confirmed today that the SHOWTIME PPV presentation of Mayweather vs. McGregor on August 26, 2017 generated 4.3 million pay-per-view buys in North America. This includes traditional television distribution and online portals such as the new SHOWTIME PPV app and SHOWTIMEPPV.com as well as UFC.TV in U.S. and Canada.

Russell Ess - December 14, 2017

UFC President Dana White has threatened to sue Manny Pacquiao and his representatives if they have tried to start talks and negotiations for a boxing match with Conor McGregor. Although White may have tried to kill the possibility of the matchup, it’s surely a big topic for fans and pundits to talk about. Fight Hub TV recently spoke with Pacquiao’s coach Freddie Roach on the matchup and the legendary boxing trainer said that although there is a lot of money to be made in the superfight, he isn’t all that interested in it.

Dustin Poirier Wants the UFC to Strip 'Pretender' Conor McGregor

Justin Golightly - December 13, 2017

Things at lightweight are as convoluted as a Christopher Nolan movie plot. Tony Ferguson is the interim champion, who is waiting for Conor McGregor while he’s off surveying all of his nearly infinite options. Meanwhile, Eddie Alvarez just finished Justin Gaethje and Khabib Nurmagomedov is just a couple of weeks away from fighting Edson Barboza to potentially determine the #1 contender. That leaves Dustin Poirier just below this logjam, potentially a single win away himself of being in title contention. Which is why he’s pushing the UFC to strip McGregor to release the floodgates as much as he wants to fight Alvarez again. “The thing is, the UFC’s pretending with Conor [McGregor], but you have a list of top 10 fighters who aren’t pretending or messing around. This is their lives and their goals and their family’s future, a lot of stuff on the line here. So no pretending — let’s strip the belt from the guy or make him fight. We have to [strip him] and then other fights make sense. Tony [Ferguson] gets the belt, his belt becomes the real belt and then he fights the winner out of these next few fights we have coming at the beginning of the year. We’ve got to clear it up. I’m going to be the world champion next year.” — Dustin Poirier speaking to MMAWeekly.

VIDEO | Volkan Oezdemir Makes a Request to Train With Conor McGregor

Justin Golightly - December 13, 2017

What Volkan Oezdemir has done in a single year is pretty remarkable. It’s hard to believe he just debuted with the UFC back in February. Since then, he’s stacked together three straight wins, two knockouts, and earned a light heavyweight title shot against Daniel Cormier in January for UFC 220. If there is one person who knows about accomplishments, it’s Conor McGregor. Just take a look at what he’s done since his Jose Aldo fight. Oezdemir gave the UFC’s only Champ Champ some praise and asked him if he could pick his brain in the gym, to which McGregor obliged. “Hey Conor [McGregor], how are you? This is Volkan [Oezdemir]. I hope everything is well wiith you. First of all, I wanted to congratulate you on everything you’ve accomplished so far. It is amazing. Nobody has ever done that before. They told me to ask you a few questions, but I have only one request. What do you think if next time I go to Switzerland, I stop by Dublin so we can share the mat together [and] share some knowledge about fighting, because I love your philosophy of fighting.” — Volkan Oezdemir speaking to Takedown by Gentside.

Everything Conor McGregor Has Done Since KOing Jose Aldo 2 Years Ago Today

Justin Golightly - December 12, 2017

It’s hard to believe it happened only two years ago. One night, Jose Aldo is an absolute monster who reigned supreme for a decade, carrying over the WEC featherweight title into the UFC and never losing it. The next night, Aldo’s title is gone and Conor McGregor is a new undisputed UFC champion. Somehow, he did it all in only “turteen” seconds. There has only been 24 months since McGregor beat Aldo, which doesn’t seem like a whole lot, but a lot has happened. While critics will be quick to point out he hasn’t defended a title, he sure has been busy doing a lot of other stuff. No one could beat Jose Aldo for 10 years. Conor McGregor did it in 13 seconds.

Edson Barboza believes it doesn't matter if Conor McGregor returns to MMA

Tom Taylor - December 12, 2017

The fighting future of UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor is currently shrouded in mystery. There is a chance, of course, that he’ll return to MMA, where is career began, where fights with interim lightweight champion Tony Ferguson, lightweight contender Nate Diaz, welterweight champion Tyron Woodley, and welterweight legend Georges St-Pierre could await. He might also return to the boxing ring, where he recently battled Floyd Mayweather Jr., for potential bouts with Manny Pacquiao, Paulie Malignaggi and even Oscar De La Hoya. And finally, there’s a chance he simply never fights again, content to live off the millions he’s already earned. Indeed, we’re all wondering what the future holds for Conor McGregor, but in the opinion of top lightweight contender Edson Barboza, who battles Khabib Nurmagomedov in a possible title eliminator at UFC 219 this December 30, it really doesn’t matter. In his opinion, interim champion Tony Ferguson is now the true champion, and Conor McGregor is simply an afterthought.

BREAKING | Conor McGregor in Talks for Another Gigantic Boxing Match for April

Justin Golightly - December 8, 2017

Back last month when Manny Pacquiao winked at a possible fight with Conor McGregor, we all just took it with a grain of salt just like Paulie Malignaggi’s constant petition to settle his differences with the Irish MMA Champ Champ. However, it looks like it is more than just talk. The two have entered into negotiations to have a multi-million dollar boxing match in April of 2018. If this goes down, McGregor would most likely vacate his UFC lightweight title in order to make another obscene amount of money.    In the boxing world, reports tonight Manny Pacquiao -39 later this month – has confirmed he’s opened talks to fight Conor McGregor in April next year.

Conor McGregor Lets It Be Known That He's Not Done Fighting

Drake Riggs - December 7, 2017

There has been plenty of speculation surrounding the future of Conor McGregor’s career, whether it be in boxing or MMA. UFC president, Dana White has been repeatedly asked about what will be next for the current UFC Lightweight champion and stated most recently that he’s moving forward as if McGregor’s not coming back. He said this after saying, “Money changes everything, he may never fight again. He has got $100 million in the bank. It’s tough to get punched in the face every day when you’ve got $100 million.” This is definitely a reasonable opinion from White, but according to TheMacLife, McGregor himself told his sponsor, Betsafe the following:

Cub Swanson Argues UFC Favored 'Pampered' Fighters Over His Hard Work

Justin Golightly - December 7, 2017

When Max Holloway needed a new sparring partner at UFC 218 after Frankie Edgar received an injury, Cub Swanson was the first to put himself in the queue. Unfortunately for the featherweight contender, he never got the call. It’s hard to believe that in a career that dates back all the way to 2004, he’s never gotten a title shot. It’s one of those facts where you don’t believe until you look back through the records and see for yourself. Approaching the last fight on his UFC contract against Brian Ortega at UFC Frenso, it’s something that is on Swanson’s mind. According to him, hard work isn’t enough as the UFC pampers certain individuals over others. “No, I haven’t been [compensated what I deserve], and I feel all the fighters should be paid more. I feel I was putting in my dues for a long time out of an ignorance of thinking, ‘I’m going to put in the work and I’ll be taken care of.’ I feel I’ve been paid good, but when you see guys like Conor [McGregor], guys like Nate Diaz, who are hardly fighting and make a couple of [million] each fight, man. […] For everything I’ve already done and what I bring to the table, and what a lot of us do, we should be taken care of more long-term, that’s all.”

VIDEO | Kevin Lee Warns Conor McGregor to Get his Sh-t Together

Justin Golightly - December 5, 2017

Kevin Lee and Conor McGregor have something in common: They’re both due for a comeback. Lee fell short against interim UFC lightweight champion Tony Ferguson back at UFC 216, but the UFC hasn’t seen McGregor since he held both the featherweight and lightweight belts over his head in Madison Square Garden last year. Kevin Lee vows to fight sooner rather than later, offering a scolding for the organization’s Champ Champ and warns he’s got multiple beatings ahead of him. “Yeah, that boy [Conor McGregor is] f-cking up. I don’t know, if the rumors are true or whatever, he better get his sh-t together because he’s got a long mountain to climb. People are saying oh, is he going to fight, is he going to do this? I take the man for his word. He say he a fighter. I think he’s gonna’ come back. He has to come back and try to defend that title. He’s got a long mountain to climb up there. He’s got Tony [Ferguson] as soon as he comes back. Tony’s going to beat the hell out of him. As soon as he loses that one, I’m going to beat the hell out of him and then he’s going to be down in the dirt.”

VIDEO | Justin Gaethje Doesn't Give a Sh-t About Conor McGregor's Plans

Justin Golightly - December 2, 2017

For those who didn’t see Justin Gaethje’s three-year path of destruction through World Series of Fighting, they were exposed to the kind of violence he provides at The Ultimate Fighter 25 Finale. Followers of the agent of chaos were eager to see if Gaethje’s kill-or-be-killed style would hold up against a top-10 UFC lightweight. Everyone knows now – especially Michael Johnson – that it did. Diving deeper into the shark tank, Justin Gaethje will now fight one of the top 155-pound fighters in the world in mere hours. If Gaethje successfully retains his title as UFC’s “Most Violent Fighter” against Eddie Alvarez, it looks like he will be after Tony Ferguson’s interim lightweight belt. “I honestly don’t give a sh-t [about Conor McGegor’s plans] because it does not matter. If I don’t win this fight [against Eddie Alvarez], I’m not even in that picture. So, I’m focusing on Eddie. Can’t hate on Conor for making a sh-t ton of money. Don’t hate him at all. So yeah, if I finish Eddie, I would definitely want to fight Tony [Ferguson for the interim lightweight title].”

Conor McGregor is the Most Tested Athlete in Combat Sports

Justin Golightly - December 2, 2017

Conor McGregor is no stranger to breaking records. He holds way more than a handful in the UFC, including the biggest gate, largest purse and being the first simultaneous two-division champion just to name a few. It looks like those records just keep on coming, but in the current climate of the UFC, this one should mean a lot. According to the USADA data compiled by Dimspace on Twitter, McGregor is the most tested athlete in combat sports and it’s not that close. McGregor has been tested by USADA a total of 36 times.
