Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather fight to get multi-city media tour

Tom Taylor - June 20, 2017

In the buildup to Conor McGregor and Jose Aldo’s planned UFC 189 featherweight title fight (which was ultimately rescheduled for UFC 194), the UFC carted the two stars off on an international media tour, stopping in cities in Ireland, Brazil, the United States, and Canada. From the sounds of it, McGregor’s much discussed boxing match with undefeated legend Floyd Mayweather Jr. will received a similar treatment. Speaking on the latest edition of The MMA Hour, Showtime Sports Executive Vice President Stephen Espinoza explained that he expects Mayweather and McGregor to do some traveling together in advance of their fight.

Joe Rogan says Conor McGregor would be a "folk hero" if he head kicked Floyd Mayweather

Tom Taylor - June 20, 2017

Though Conor McGregor is an incredibly talented mixed martial artist, he’s being widely discounted in his upcoming boxing match with undefeated legend Floyd Mayweather Jr. People just don’t seem to believe the Irish mixed martial artist will be able to hang with Mayweather in the boxing ring. The same would go for Mayweather in a mixed martial arts bout with McGregor, of course. If McGregor was allowed to use his kicks, elbows, knees, and takedowns – rather than just his fists – Mayweather would be given almost no chance.

Last week, we learned that UFC lightweight champ Conor McGregor’s much discussed boxing match with undefeated great Floyd Mayweather was officially a go. Unsurprisingly, the finalization of this fight took a good deal of negotiating, as McGregor is still under contract with the UFC. While the UFC ultimately allowed McGregor to bend the terms of his contract to compete in this fight with Mayweather, however, it was not immediately clear how his sponsorship situation would pan out. As a UFC fighter, after all, McGregor is required to wear Reebok during his fights.

All the same, he’ll be putting some money down on him, because he believes anything is possible in combat sports.

Welterweight champ Tyron Woodley heaps praise on Conor McGregor

Tom Taylor - June 15, 2017

UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley and UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor have certainly had their issues in the past. When Woodley heard the news that the Irishman had finally made his much-discussed boxing match with Floyd Mayweather happen, however, he could only offer his respect. “I immediately started thinking in my mind how I’m going to be at the fight, that’s the first thing I thought” Woodley told BJPenn.com’s Chris Taylor of his reaction to the news. “Obviously, you know, me and Conor haven’t seen eye-to-eye a couple of times, but from a standpoint of what he does for the sport – I’ve made a lot of money being on the same card as him. Do I really want to sit here and act like I can’t stand this dude or I can’t respect him? I’d be lying to you. I respect the hell out of his hustle, and what he’s done to put himself in this position that he’s in. His ability to go out there and make himself this larger than life figure, and then to get the pound-for-pound best boxer of our generation to come out of retirement and fight him? Come on now. Give the dude his due. Everybody stand up, everybody clap. He is now the ambassador of quan. He just made something that happen that wasn’t even fathomable in our minds. So with that being said, I can deal with it and I’m excited to see it.”
