If you didn’t catch it last night, Dana White waited until right after Conor McGregor’s open workout to release the much-talked about videos of the Paul Malignaggi sparring sessions. If Malignaggi thought those pics were unflattering, then it was guaranteed this knockdown footage was going to send him in a rage. He rushed to Twitter moments after the release to say what he always has: This was a push. So, you would think it would make perfect sense for Berto to be helping out “The Notorious” in his training camp, right? According to McGregor’s former sparring partner Paulie Malignaggi, Berto had plans to join McGregor’s camp to help prepare the UFC champ for his mega-million dollar boxing match against Mayweather. However, after seeing and hearing how McGregor went about treating Malignaggi and Chris Van Heerden in the past, Berto’s plans changed.

The old saying goes that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, if that’s the case then Conor McGregor has flattered a lot of people. Floyd Mayweather has already tried to call McGregor out for supposedly stealing his entire blueprint. That may not be totally accurate, brash and extremely successful athletes mostly take the same path. If you want to talk about rags to riches and going from fighting on undercards to promoting events, then Mayweather has something. But there’s another side to McGregor which hearkens back to someone else: the alligator shoes, the classic timepieces, but most importantly those fancy robes. Conor McGregor isn’t technically in the UFC anymore, but everyone still wants to fight him. Who can blame them? The red panty night is very real. Any guy who can talk his way into fighting Floyd Mayweather for his professional boxing debut, is a guy who knows how to make money. Only Nate Diaz was able to beat McGregor in the UFC, but Max Holloway lasted longer than anyone else. Since then, Holloway has dethroned Jose Aldo and is the “undisputed” UFC featherweight champion. The private car convoy hits the strip. Guys with tight suits and midnight shades stand guard. People start to look around and feel some sort of anxious electricity in the air. A dark window creeps down, the crowd struggles to get a peak. Finally, out of the window pops Conor McGregor in a billowy, unbuttoned shirt and the whole city goes ballistic. Except it’s not Conor McGregor, it’s some guy named Islam Badurgov.

When it was first agreed upon, Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor‘s blockbuster boxing match was supposed to be contested in 10 oz. gloves. From the sounds of it, however, that could change. After receiving criticism for demanding the use of 10 oz. gloves, which could well dampen the power of McGregor’s punches, Mayweather attempted to silence his critics by challenging McGregor to box in 8 oz gloves. McGregor then responded that he was all for it, and now, the wheels seem to be in motion.

After leaving the Irishman’s training camp with a bad taste in his mouth, the retired two-division boxing champ has had plenty to say about him. It sure has been a long journey for Conor McGregor. No matter your opinion on the guy, if you delete his trash talk and brash in-your-face swagger, all you’re left with is a ridiculous list of accomplishments. Sure, he has a fire-spittin’ Lambo and pants that look like they’d be hanging in the back of Bret Hart’s closet, but he’s also knocked out two UFC champions. He’s gone from a plumber, to the richest MMA fighter ever. Oh, and he’s somehow strutted his way into a fight with the best boxer of our generation. The latest news surrounding the mega-money fight between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor is all about the sparring sessions and fallout between “The Notorious” and former two-weight boxing world champion Paulie Malignaggi. A series of photos that allegedly made Malignaggi look like McGregor got the best of their two sparring sessions made the recently retired boxer remove himself from helping with the fight camp feeling like he was “exploited.”

Apparently, however, Mayweather plans to divert from the style for which he’s become known against McGregor. We will not be seeing the sly and slippery Mayweather we’re used to, but rather an aggressive, head-hunting version of him. Yet despite his youth in the sport, he will not be taking on another newbie in some community center basement or banquet hall. He will be taking on undefeated legend Floyd Mayweather Jr., a man widely considered the greatest boxer of this era, in a fight that is being billed as one of the biggest ever. Given that McGregor has never boxed professionally, he is being given little chance against Mayweather, who boasts a sparkling record of 49-0. There are, however, some members of the combat sports world that seem to give the 28-year-old Irishman a chance against his aging opponent, and apparently, Mayweather himself is one of them.
