Tom Taylor - November 30, 2016
UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones and UFC flyweight champion Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson have been neck-and-neck atop MMA’s pound-for-pound list for years. Now that Jon Jones is out of competition with a suspension, however, there is little denying that Mighty Mouse is MMA’s pound-for-pound king. According to Mighty Mouse, however, being the pound-for-pound best doesn’t mean all that much. In a recent interview with Fox Sports, Mighty Mouse addressed his place atop this speculative list.

Russell Ess - November 29, 2016
Conor McGregor made history at UFC 205 when he beat Eddie Alvarez to become the first fighter to be a simultaneous two-division UFC champion. Ariel Helwani harshly criticizes the UFC for the reason they stripped Conor McGregor of featherweight title
Russell Ess - November 29, 2016
Many people were shocked when the UFC announced that Irish superstar Conor McGregor “relinquished” the UFC featherweight title over the weekend. Coming just two weeks after winning the UFC lightweight title from Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205, “The Notorious” is now just the UFC lightweight champion of the world. McGregor was the first fighter in history to concurrently hold two UFC division’s titles, even if it was for a short period.
Coach Kavanagh explains why stripping Conor McGregor of FW title was a "ridiculous" move by UFC
Tom Taylor - November 29, 2016
Earlier this month, in the main event of UFC 205, Conor McGregor knocked out Eddie Alvarez to win the UFC lightweight title. Because he already owned the UFC featherweight title, this defeat of Alvarez made him the first fighter in UFC history to hold belts in two divisions simultaneously. Just weeks later, shortly after the UFC 206 main event got cancelled, the UFC announced that the card’s Max Holloway vs. Anthony Pettis co-main event would be for the interim featherweight title, and that Jose Aldo had been promoted from interim champion to undisputed champion. This, of course, meant that McGregor had been stripped of the featherweight belt – or as they put it, he’d “relinquished” it.
Jose Aldo on McGregor loss: I lost that fight because of a fluke
Tom Taylor - November 29, 2016
Last December, in the main event of UFC 194, Jose Aldo was knocked out by Conor McGregor in just 13 seconds. The loss forced the end of his decade-long unbeaten streak and his incredible reign as WEC and UFC featherweight champion. In the year since his defeat of Aldo, McGregor has taken two welterweight fights with Nate Diaz, and a lightweight title fight with Eddie Alvarez, which he won by second-round TKO. In the wake of this lightweight title win, McGregor embarked on an open-ended hiatus from competition to father his first child.

Tony Ferguson: Conor McGregor does not want any part of me
Tom Taylor - November 28, 2016
Earlier this month, lightweight contender Tony Ferguson extended his win-streak to nine with a win over the division’s former champion, Rafael Dos Anjos. One week later, Khabib Nurmagomedov scored a similarly impressive win over Michael Johnson, extending his record to a ridiculous 24-0 in the process. Given their current streaks, either man could easily be awarded the next crack at UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor. Because McGregor is currently enjoying some time off, however, it’s likely that they’ll wind up fighting each other for an interim lightweight title in the meantime. Whoever wins this potential interim title bout would almost certainly fight McGregor to unify the lightweight title when he returns from his hiatus. Tony Ferguson, however, is confident that McGregor wants no part of him, and will do whatever he can to avoid this prospective showdown.

MMA community reacts to Conor McGregor relinquishing the UFC featherweight title
Tom Taylor - November 27, 2016
Last December, Ireland’s Conor McGregor won the UFC featherweight title with a 13 second knockout of Jose Aldo. In his next fight, he was expected to take on then lightweight champion Rafael Dos Anjos for a shot at a second UFC belt. When Dos Anjos withdrew from this planned contest with an injury, however, McGregor would take on Nate Diaz on just 11 days’ notice – a fight he would famously lose. From there, McGregor would rematch Diaz, this time walking away with a hard-fought majority decision win. His next and most recent bout would see him get the lightweight title shot he was originally supposed to get against Dos Anjos – though the champion by this point was Eddie Alvarez. McGregor would dominate Alvarez to a second-round TKO, becoming the first fighter in UFC history to hold titles in two weight classes simultaneously as he did. If math isn’t your strong suit, that’s three fights McGregor has taken since he won the UFC featherweight title almost a year ago – and not one of them was a defense of that title. Though he is an undeniably talented fighter, he’s hardly the picture of an active champion.
