The buzz of a fight between UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor and retired boxing champion Floyd Mayweather seems to have dwindled down for the most part. However, that hasn’t stopped McGregor from talking about competition whenever Floyd’s name comes up. McGregor recently told ESPN, “If I only had to focus on boxing, hell, I’d be neck and neck with Floyd right now. I’m in the game of spinning plates. I’m spinning a boxing plate. I’m spinning a taekwondo plate. I’m spinning a jiujitsu plate. I’m spinning a freestyle wrestling plate. I’m spinning a karate plate. There are so many spinning plates in this game. If I was to put all of them down and have one boxing plate spinning, it would be like a load off my shoulders.”

On Monday, UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor released some exclusive footage of his training for his rematch with Nate Diaz scheduled for UFC 202. In the video, McGregor showcased his sparring session with former boxing champion Chris Van Heerden and apparently edited the video to show himself getting the better of Van Heerden in training.

Back in March, Conor McGregor suffered the first loss of his UFC career at the hands of Nate Diaz, who stepped in for an injured Rafael dos Anjos on just two weeks notice. Diaz submitted McGregor in the second round after rocking the featherweight champ with a jab-cross combination. Ahead of their rematch at UFC 202 on August 20th, McGregor believes that the loss has reignited a fire within him.

Back in March, Nate Diaz stepped in on less than two weeks notice to fight Conor McGregor in the main event of UFC 196 after UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos broke his foot during training. Diaz submitted McGregor in the second round, putting an end to McGregor’s hopes of earning a welterweight title shot, setting the stage for arguably the biggest rematch in UFC history. McGregor wasn’t happy with the situation, and surprised the MMA community when he retired via Twitter. The fight was ultimately scrapped after McGregor refused to fulfill his promotional obligations for the event. Ultimately however, the pair were rebooked to fight at UFC 202 in August.
