Nate Diaz vs. Conor McGregor press conference added to international fight week

Initially, Nate Diaz and Conor McGregor were slated to have their highly anticipated welterweight rematch in the main event of UFC 200 on July 9th. McGregor refused to fulfill his media obligations for the event, and as a result was pulled from the card after briefly retiring. Now, with the pair set to collide in a highly anticipated rematch on August 20th in the main event of UFC 202, the UFC has booked the pair to appear for a press conference prior to UFC 200 during international fight week.

Ahead of Conor McGregor’s welterweight UFC 202 rematch against Nate Diaz, the featherweight champ is wasting no time in bringing in elite level boxers to help him prepare for the bout. Michael Conlan is a 2012 Olympic Bronze medalist, and and Paddy Barnes is a two-time Olympic bronze medalist. Both men vouched for McGregor’s skills via Twitter after the training session.

Conor McGregor is busy working on his technique ahead of his rematch with Nate Diaz set for UFC 202. McGregor has been “obsessed” with getting another crack at Diaz and has brought in Brazilian jiu-jitsu stud Dillon Danis to help prepare for his rematch. Danis is a black belt under Marcelo Garcia and is decorated in competitive BJJ, having won the world championships and Abu Dhabi World Pro Champion in the brown belt division.

Since winning the UFC featherweight championship back in December, Conor McGregor went up to welterweight for a UFC 196 fight with Nate Diaz, which was initially supposed to be a lightweight title fight with Rafael dos Anjos. McGregor lost the fight, and then was rebooked to fight Diaz at UFC 200, however he was pulled from the card after refusing to fulfill his media obligations for the event. Now, with Frankie Edgar vs. Jose Aldo set for the interim featherweight championship at UFC 200, and McGregor vs. Diaz II set for UFC 202, many are wondering if McGregor will ever go back down to featherweight to defend his title.

For example, Soccer phenom Cristiano Ronaldo ranked #1 on the list, while NBA superstar LeBron James ranked #2 on the list. Surprisingly, two UFC stars ranked on the list. Former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey ranked at #23, ahead of any other combat athlete. In addition, UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor ranked at #37 on the list.

At UFC 194, Conor McGregor and Jose Aldo finally had their fight for the UFC featherweight championship. The fight lasted just 13 seconds, with McGregor putting the featherweight champion to sleep with a left hand in the first exchange of the fight. Rather than defending his belt, McGregor went up for what was supposed to be a lightweight title fight against Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 196. Unfortunately, dos Anjos withdrew from the fight with a broken foot. Nate Diaz then stepped in on short notice to fight McGregor, handing him the first loss of his UFC career.
